I don't see how Edmonton would be able to sign Horvat to a long-term deal unless he's willing to take an RNH-type discount, but it probably starts with trading Barrie instead of Ceci. Barrie isn't the type of defender that Vancouver needs, but Edmonton needs to add to their defence as is, so they aren't going to get rid of Ceci who they consider one of their better defenders and who is also cheaper. So, there might not be a fit here in terms of trading or perhaps there will just be more bald/balding Vancouver fans in the near future.

Edmonton doesn't have the cap space to offer Horvat between $8,000,000 to $9,000,000 per. And that offer is easily beaten. Ceci and Puljujarvi have little to no value. There is no way Horvat is getting dealt within the division for that offer. Other teams like Carolina and Detroit would offer far better.

And show proof that Horvat would sign with Edmonton when he's pretty much said that he and his family are living in London Ontario year round. Sorry but Edmonton is over 2,400 miles from London Ontario.

Your 100% correct. Horvat extension would be super difficult. Im just not sure Oilers could be able to move Barrie without giving up a first round pick. Barrie has also had a great season with the Oilers this year which is being over looked because of his contract and the fact that hes been terrible the last two seasons. Ceci brings more value to the table and would maybe imo be a valueable peice for Vancouver to get out of a Horvat deal. Also I think Shenn could replace Cecis play for much cheaper. Also Bo Horvat is great on both ends of the ice which the Oilers desperatly need and I would be willing to slightly downgrade on ceci to get that.

Marek talked about how the Canucks are likely looking to regain roster players, rather than draft picks and future assets in a deal for Horvat.

Dude i read it, It means absolutely nothing, You don't even know how Ken Holland works. Holland hasn't traded a 1st round pick since 2010 13 years ago. Edmonton needs to upgrade their blueline not add another C they don't need.

Ceci and Puljujarvi are trash, Bourgault is so overrated it isn't funny. Plus late 1st Holland won't move. Everything i read is Holland is looking at upgrading his blueline not adding another expensive C to the deal.

Like I said in another reply Horvat is very good on both ends of the ice and Shenn would be a good add. Also Ken Holland this year has said he is willing to trade the first round pick just not for a rental.

You can't say Ceci is trash. Very solid defender. puljujarvi has low value yes but interest is picking up for him and as a part of a bigger deal he has value to some teams.

So Horvat is a rental, And no Edmonton doesn't have the $8,000,000 to $9,000,000 that it will cost to sign Horvat long term. JR also said that he wants players 26 and under and Cody ceci will be 30 this year. So i'm pretty sure ceci isn't a want Puljujarvi is garbage. And yeah Holland might move a 1st but it will be for upgrading the D not for Bo Horvat.

He's almost 30 years old, JR specifically said 26 and under. There's no way Vancouver is trading Horvat within the division for what you're offering it's garbage

I’m not close to the Canucks, but on the surface, doesn’t signing Kuz to an extension just mean it’s a forgone conclusion that Boeser will be traded now?

There lies the problem, Barrie has good (offensive) numbers so the Oilers aren't going to add a sweetener to dump him during the season (especially not a first), and Vancouver is trying to shed cap so won't take him on if they don't want him. As for Ceci, the Canucks can use him, but the Oilers aren't looking to move him, adding Horvat and Schenn isn't going to change that. Schenn is likely going to be a rental and they can't afford a slight downgrade when they need an upgrade on the D-Zone. If they are going to give up a ton of assets for Horvat and also get penalized by having to give up Ceci (a player they want), they are better off pursuing a defender that they need, rather than a forward who they will need to pay (in assets and money).

Not sure about Boeser although id assume his time in Van is nearing its end. But the Canucks were picking between Horvat and Kuzemenko and it has been reported by Rick Dhaliwal they could not sign both.

Both sides have already agreed that it's time to move on and they have been trying to trade Boeser for a while now (no takers so far), but if you mean that a trade might be imminent now, maybe.

I honestly think both Miller's and whatever contract Horvat signs will age terribly.

Miller is gonna get 8 mil a year throughout his 30s as a 75 pt winger who sucks defensively.

Horvat is gonna get 8 mil a year through his late 20s and 30s as a 55 pt two way C.

Both massively overpaid, and they should have traded both of them instead of giving either their money off career years.

Van is going to finish 18-20th the next five years and get no good draft picks and will continue to refuse to rebuild until the fans run the owner out of town

Idk, 7m for a 75 pt winger isn't too bad, but seems like they are transitioning him back into center anyways. Most signings are bound to end up eventually aging badly, so as long as Miller isn't "overpaid" by 3m+ in the first half of his contract or 5-6m in the second third, then it's not that bad even if he ends up being so in years 6 or 7. The real issue though would be how his signing potentially hinders others in the future, losing Horvat over Miller doesn't seem like a big deal especially if they get a good haul out of Horvat or at least a better haul than they would have gotten for Miller last off-season.

I get that, but they're going to be a middling team for the foreseeable future now, instead of moving him last year. Imagine if they had taken the reported offer of Chytil, Lundqvist, and 1st for him, and then dont the Lundqvist trade with DAL?

What could have turned into Chytil (breaking out with 28 pts in 40), two 1sts, and a 4th would have been a great return, and the Canucks and most fans scoffed at it.

Yeah, I don't disagree, with that but I imagine even if they traded Miller, they would have waited to sign Horvat and be signing him to an 8m deal now anyways, and then it would be more or less the same problem.

Personally, I thought what they should have done in the off-season was trade Miller for whatever and resign Horvat to 6m-6.5m. Right now, it looks like I was right, but it's not like Miller can't have a bounce back next year or in the future.

At this point they need to just trade Horvat, at least one of Boeser (I really think he needs a change of scenery) or Garland, trade Myers (next off-season), trade/buyout OEL, and acquire one legit top 4 D man (via trade or free agency). Then next year, they should reassess where they are at if they can't compete, then it would be time to look at moving out more guys and essentially rebuilding.
