oilers dont give up a player with potential + a first for a washed overpaid winger. we also don't need anymore forwards as that's why we are trading pulju in the first place

For that return, much rather just hang onto Zadina and see if he figures it out.

-If Winnipeg gave up a 1st for Bailey I'd have to assume Lamoriello has Chevy's family held hostage somewhere. I think Bailey retained can get back a mid-rounder, sure, but no one's giving up a 1st in a stacked draft for him. No one's giving up a 1st in any draft for him at this point.

-I don't think the Avs are all too keen on giving up more prospects for older vets, but I think the value is correct here. Not a big fan of retaining $3M through 2024-25, and I think the cost of doing that is going to be enough to scare other teams off. Nelson is still productive enough to keep around through a retool, and flip out in his walk year for a younger player or a pick instead.

-Not sure why you'd give up one of the few NHL-caliber prospects just to shed Palmieri's deal. I would also be shocked if Edmonton is one of the 15 teams Palms wouldn't have on his NTC, so it's a moot point. Even beyond that, though, the same thing as above happens - the cost of retaining that kinda money for that long is going to be a prohibitive addition to any deal for these guys.

-Feels wasteful to keep paying assets or retention cash to dump overpaid middle-6 guys to spend more assets on an overpaid middle-6 guy. Don't love the fit at all.

-Not sure why Detroit does this - the difference in value between a mid-2nd rounder and a mid-3rd rounder is equivalent to a 4th rounder, so you're basically offering a 4th/6th for Zadina. They easily pass on that.

-Lotta value for Seattle to give up for a guy that I don't think cracks their top 6 - Schwartz, Eberle, Burakovsky, McCann, Bjorkstrand, and arguably Tolvanen are more productive wingers that are under contract next year. Giving up a recent 2nd rounder and a future 2nd rounder for a guy who fits on your 4th line and not really anywhere else is an overpay.

Every valuation of an Islanders player here is done through some seriously blue-and-orange tinted glasses. The best bet they are going to have with a lot of these is change of scenery type deals, if any - Bailey might get something back with retention as a pending UFA, but Palmieri's contract and Beau's inconsistency make it hard to convince teams to give up picks and prospects. And while Brock Nelson has what I'd assume to be strong trade value, he's also older with some significant term left as well - teams are going to be wary about taking on his age-32 & -33 seasons at full freight, but the Isles shouldn't just give him away because of that.

if Lou got back any 1st round pick for Josh Bailey he immediately wins GM of the Year

i'd also argue that whoever traded that 1st for Bailey would immediately have to be placed in the quiet room out of concerns for a recent major head injury

So, NYI retain $3M on Nelson each of the next 2.5 years and he only costs COL $3M a year? Awfully tempting to get a 60-pt cost-controlled 2C (probably more points between Avs stud wings) for that long even for that steep return.
