Chatfield should not be on the roster at all and should in fact be traded before Coghlan, but otherwise, you're still f**ked when Kase needs to be activated. He's already skating and has been for a while. It's clear he's coming back whether you like it or not. Need to account for it.

I continue to be shocked at how you see the 3rd pairing defense. Chatfield is not the issue, maybe you didn’t watch the last two games? Coghlan gets dog walked on board battles and doesn’t have the foot speed to get back into plays. Chatfield has been covering up for him. Chatfield actually killed penalties next to Slavin last night.

Chatfield is a perfectly acceptable 3rd pairing defenseman. Coghlan is an AHL offensive defenseman.

I’m all for moving Coghlan and sitting CdH, but Chatfield has been great this year. No need to pay for Schenn when Chatfield is essentially a younger version of Schenn. Ghost or Kulikov should be a target for 3LD for sure, because Coghlan and CdH are pretty much non-options at this point.

Coghlan is bad defensively, but he's good enough offensively to make up for it. Chatfield is bad defensively and doesn't make up for it. The major issue with Coghlan being "walked" is that he's playing LD. He needs to be put in his natural position. The one game he partnered De Haan, he had 2 points.

It shocks me how you continue to defend Coghlan, this is a player that has struggled all year to produce and relies heavily on his skating to get him out of jams, he takes braindead penalties all the time, he's not exactly good with the puck either. You say he's a "fine 3rd pairing defenseman" and I genuinely question your sanity. Coghlan had a better game than he did against New Jersey playing OUT OF POSITION. That should end this debate straight up.
