Rangers are not trading Chtyil or any of their top young players or prospects for a Kane rental. Not going to happen. Best you get is a 1st round pick and a B prospect like Zac Jones. If that's not enough, trade him elsewhere and good luck.

You act like you'd be doing CHI a favor taking him off our hands, but most of us would prefer him and Toews stuck around. The only reason for Drury to acquire Kane is if he wants him, and IF he wants him he will include a top prospect. Blais and Jones and your other failed or struggling prospects aren't going to cut it. But if that's the case, CHI would just take draft picks instead.

I did not post this trade, did I? All I said was Chytil and the other young kids and best prospects wouldn't be traded for a Kane rental or any rental. That's not a knock on Kane, it's just good asset management. If a 1st round pick and B prospect isn't enough to rent Kane, then fine, trade him to someone else who will give you more. How is that a problem for anyone?

Good asset management includes realizing when your window is at its peak so you can maximize your chances. Chytil will want a raise this offseason, and more important long-term pieces such as K'Andre Miller and Lafreniere to a lesser extent will need new deals along with 6 other players to fill out your roster. Maybe Othmann is ready and that LW spot is even further cluttered (he's sick). Maybe Zac Jones fills in that 3rd LD spot. It isn't a panic but it will be much tougher to put as good of a team as you can this year on the ice as next year. With the roster Drury and Jeff Gorton assembled I think it is in a spot to sacrifice one of its 2 late1st round picks, a late second next year, and a good middle 6 center for a dynamic winger with a playoff resume stronger than the team's combined he'd be joining with an easy spot to fill in which is a need. Panarin, Zibanajed, Kreider, Trocheck and Trouba are at their peaks right now, and hopefully the other young pieces continue to step up as their game's grow. I think slotting in Kane is certainly worth the cost of giving this team an actual chance at a ring instead of a team that would be lucky to make round 2. I think the impact and upgrade he would be is understated by some Ranger fans. There is the infrastructure to continue to build and develop the young group while maximizing the current window. I see your point, and am likely biased but that's my diatribe.

I'd be fine dealing him elsewhere it's just a cop out to slot him with Panarin in NYR. I think Dallas could be a great fit if he would waive and seeing him go to Buffalo if they can get into the mix would be fun too. The Islanders could also swoop in, upgrade and leave them in a slightly better spot than they were, hurting NYR's odds as well, though they aren't really a team that can truly contend contend even with him I don't think, though they would be a stereotypical tough playoff out.

"though they aren't really a team that can truly contend contend even with him I don't think". These are your words in the last paragraph, which only SUPPORT my position that it doesn't make any sense to give up good young assets like Chytil to rent Kane. The Rangers are 1 year out of a full rebuild, so their "cup window" extends beyond this season. IMO, they have a much better chance to win a Cup next season or two seasons from now if they display some patience and not trade away good young players for rentals. I watched Sather try to win a Cup that way for years and it never works. It took both TB and the Av's a few playoff failures to finally get an experienced team that could win the Cup, and that's what the Rangers need to do. As I said, I am fine with rentals such as Kane, and fine with trading one 1st round pick, but absolutely NO to good young players on the roster now and top prospects like Othmann and Cuylee. If that doesn't work for the Hawks, that's fine, I wish them well trading him elsewhere.
