When thinking of possible trades, it's important to consider that NHL GM's tend to trade with the same clubs over and over. We know that some GM's have great relationships and keep in touch, while other GM's hardly or never keep in touch.

Next, we need to look at teams in that category outside of the playoffs. It is not often that a playoff team sells a core asset to another playoff/contending team.

Dubas has a trade history with the Ottawa Senators, as shown by the Brown/Zaitsev deal and the Matt Murray deal, amongst others. We also have a relationship with Sens coach DJ Smith, which may help the teams create a trade.

While I DO NOT think this is going to happen, I am merely proposing the potential of it. Of course, this relies completely on DeBrincat's interest in re-signing in Ottawa. If he is open to an extension, he is staying a Sen. The Sens likely have no interest in moving AD after spending assets to acquire him just this off-season. However, if DeBrincat expresses that an extension with Ottawa is not in his best interest, perhaps they would explore a trade to recoup some assets.

For Leafs fans suggesting that DeBrincat is too small, consider that he would be a complimentary piece on this team and that another rumoured trade target (Kane) is similar in stature yet more expensive. The Leafs need depth scoring and DeBrincat would be a massive addition to the 2nd line.
