That Pittsburgh trade is terrible. Pettersson should not be available and Buffalo would have to add.

If it's Dumoulin add a pick and they'll give you Mittlestadt

So final trade is

Dumoulin, 3rd, 4th
For
Olofson, Middlestat

I’d do that

Sabres are not ready to give out both Mittelstadt and VO in one trade for defensemen.

This summer Dumolin will be a UFA. I made this for next season, 23-24. You can’t trade him because he’ll be a UFA.

I always hear people dumping on middlestat like he’s a bust or something? Idk?

Lol my b I misunderstood…

I mean I’d do a dumoulin for middlestat with picks added to balance just to get rid of the salary tbh to set the stage for a bigger move

Casey is "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma,"
While he has 58 pts over his last 113 games, at time he seems to be disinterested.
He started the season great with 7 pts in 9 games, while winning more than 50% of his FO.
Then went a long period of coasting with only 6 pts over 19 games and losing more FO than he won.
His play lately has been better and maybe with a change he would become a 20-50 forward.
He has the talent but he is very inconsistent.

So he’s buffalos kasperi kapanen? Lol
Would BUF or you consider a 1for1? Kap for Mid? Fresh start kinda thing?

I always liked Kapanen.
I got to see him play more often when he was with the Leafs, but now with the Penguins, he is barely noticeable.
From an exchange of potential talent POV it is certainly intriguing.
I would do it as Buffalo has several options for bottom six centers and could use another right hand shooting forward.

At this time, Buffalo would want to add a RHD (or any D-man) more than a RW.
The Sabres have been playing with three AHL defensemen for several weeks.
Since the Penguins are in the playoff hunt it is unlikely that Hextall would move a defenseman.

Pit has friedman and ruhwedel as depth RHD and if we added a vet at the deadline then one of them would be expendable

I like Chad.
He is one of those unspectacular D-men who one never notices.
He will not score many points, but he will not hurt the team when he is in the line up.
Chad and what for Casey?

If we’re taking out kapanen then… we would have to send salary back unless you can retain on middlestat… I doubt carter would waive so we have dumoulin notably… ($4.1M) or McGinn $2.75M but he’s been good recently…

Wait, Chad and Kapanen for Casey?
Or Chad and a pick for Casey with 50% retention?
Or Chad and Kasperi for Casey with 50% retention?
Or did you have something else in mind?

I assumed you didn’t want kap in that situation but we do still have to send some $ back… would you be willing to take Dumoulins $? His deal expires this year and I bet if BUF retained half they could flip him to a contender who wants that playoff experience and he’s still fine on the third pair… pit just can’t afford him anymore lol

Sabres need to refresh 3rd line, but if VO and CM are traded away, there is noone inside organisation that would fill this void. Top prospects need more time, they will make jump next year.
