Timo is absolutely a core piece on any team. I'm not saying Teravainen isn't, but Timo is an incredible player and I've seen enough of both to say I'd personally much rather have Timo than Teravainen. Saying Timo is "support piece" is just incorrect. You're also implying that Teravainen has more potential going forward when he's two years older and having progressively worse seasons the past two years, while Timo is progressively having better seasons.

Turbo is a very good support piece who plays underrated defense and solid playmaker. We are unlikely to keep him on his next contract due to Jarvis and Necas.

Calgary will have cap issues necessary off-season so Turbo is a better fit for their cap situation.
SJ doesn’t want Turbo in the deal so that makes the deal harder for us (unless Kase LTIRs the rest of the season). Also his QO wouldn’t be ideal as a long term contract is the better scenario but we can afford it if required.

Teuvo has become one of the best two-way players in the entire league during the last 2 years and he still has the potential to put up 70 points. Meier is a fine player, but he's too awful defensively to be a core piece, especially on a team like Carolina where defense is the entire system. He's got a great shot, but he's not worth Teuvo. Meier is younger, you're right. He's also a UFA at the end of the year because he's got a 10 million dollar qualifying offer. There's no way I'd take Meier over Teravainen. Meier may be the most overrated player on this site.

Meier is below average-defensively. His underlyings are not good. Compare TT and Meier on NST and they're MILES apart and it doesn't look so good for the Sharks forward. Timo's best trait is the fact he's able to maintain a shooting percentage above traditional league average. His creation isn't anything special. He's a very overrated player on here and you have exactly proven that. You're arguing he's a top 3 power forward in the NHL. That proves nothing, even if it is true, because they're so rare in the modern era. He's a good top 6 winger. Teuvo is a genuine top line player. You're acting like Meier is this elite talent. He's really not, not at this point.

Fans of Canadian teams with guys on bad contracts seem to want to trade them to remove the hit and get back useful assets. it does not work that way
