If Tanev was on an expiring contract and this was the trade deadline, sure that might get you the rental

The Canucks have already stated Tanev and Elder are not moving this off-season so how does this change their minds??

Sorry but a 2/3 d-man for a few picks and a 7th defenseman? Even if this was the trade deadline and he was a rental, i don't think it would be enough for Tanev.

Sure, they could move Tanev but if they do i am guessing it would cost Kasperi Kapanen and Travis Dermott. maybe a pick too.

You mean take the first trash offer and run with it? Marincin adds nothing to this deal. he's a 6/7 dman who probably wouldn't even be claimed if he were waived. A late 3rd and a mid 5th have about as much value as a 2000 pontiac sunfire. Nada.

    Here's a trade i think could work:

    Toronto Maple Leafs
    Tanev

    Vancouver Canucks
    Dermott
    Kapanen
    5th round pick

Who likes this trade? Vancouver is rebuilding and trying to get younger, Toronto could use a defenseman. I mean, it's just one possibility. In a prefect offseason it might not happen but it's a possibility.

Don't believe what sports executives say publicly.
    Certainly nearly enough for Tanev
And why would you expose Carrick? Leafs are trying to add to their defence. Leafs can easily go 4-4-1 in the expansion draft,

As a Leaf fan, I don't like it. Kapanen might be top six winger. He might be expected to take the departed JVR on the top line in 2018. Dermot look good and good see the NHL next season. He might be expected to replace the possibly departed Gardiner in 2019. I know there are a lot of "mights" in there, but the Leafs aren't desperate for a Dman to give up two good pieces in their rebuild. And they do have cap to fill on defence short term if needed instead of trading prime assets. You would think that Tanev might have more value for team in a win now mode such as the Rangers, Boston or Tampa.
