Scott Powers' latest in the Athletic suggests that Kane intends to waive only for legit contenders, not just any team competing to sneak into the playoffs as an 8 seed.

If he is picky - which to be clear, is his right if that's what he chooses to do - then I think the return may end up being a little underwhelming. CHI may not have a ton of leverage if, say, he only wants to go to COL or BOS (hypothetically)

Nothing new there, that has always been the case. He's only going to waive for who Kane believes will be competing for a cup and where he believes he can be of help. Nothing changed from a few months ago, which is why he will continue to wait it out and pay close attention to other teams. That said, could easily be NJ, Avs, Boston, Tampa, Toronto, etc. The return is and always has been dependent on how many teams he will waive for, but the news from Powers changes nothing.
