And I will continue to say too much

And I'll continue to say not enough lol

Holtz has a nasty shot but he has average skating at best and is far from a guaranteed top line winger. The pick is likely in the 25-32 range which is not even guaranteed NHLer let alone a middle 6 forward / middle pairing D-man. Timo is a first line forward who drives play and is an RFA. Even if it's a big QO, any team is very likely to extend him at a lower AAV. There's not many true power forwards in the league and he's one of them

In any other draft I'd agree, not this one. Let's get half way thru and see where we are. IMO it's a out of season move but as was noted by pundits it won't get the debrincat return.

The comps aren't there.
Any winger not named Matthew Tkachuk could come close to swing a blue chip prospect AND a 1st in return, especially one with a 1m QO.
The NHL just doesn't work that way.

Debrincat is a horrible comparison. Timo drives play on his line better than Cat. Chicago sold off their first rounder thinking they were competitive, so they needed to trade Cat to regain their losses. Sharks by no means need to trade Timo and should be competitive at least halfway through an extension, therefore, any trade they make that includes him they should be coming out with a bigger return. Also, the Debrincat trade was awful to begin with for Chicago. They should have been able to get more for him, but they got desperate to get a top ten pick. Also a trade nearing/at the deadline costs more since the team getting the player has a good idea already of where in the standings so there's less risk in giving up (primarily picks) that may age poorly for the buyers.

Well anywhere you see me post on this trade (which is everywhere) I say an off season trade. So your more for at deadline is not a factor. $10M QO will be tough for most teams including SJ. Does TM wanna stick around for that? If so he keeps the $10M QO.
If Grier holds to Holtz 1st etc TM won't be a devil, it's a nice player to have but Holtz and that 1st in this draft can be more.

Excuse me let me get this straight. Teams at the deadline are more likely to move picks bc they have a better range of where those picks might end up than right before the draft when they know exactly where those picks are??????
