I'm open to acquiring Toews, but someone else like Arizona needs to get involved to pay some of the salary. In this scenario the Jets are 200k over in the cap, maybe Arizona pays a quarter of the salary for a B prospect.

Right now, they are a contender to make the playoffs. That's it. Trading a first in a stacked draft for a player that won't make you a Stanley Cup contender because of other team deficiencies is not advisable.

Because we are under the cap we will gain cap space throughout the year. At the deadline, if we were to make no roster changes (which won't happen because we need to activate some guys of IR) we would have over $8M in cap space. So we would not need double retention unless we wanted to make other moves that require a lot of money coming in.

The Jets are in win-now mode. We really have this year then Helle, Scheif, Wheeler have 1 year left and we would have to make some decisions on them. Our bottom 6 is solid but the lines are changing every game, so we need some more solidified bottom 6ers. Towes has amazing leadership and a lot of experience. I believe that without any additions the jets can win a round, and with an addition, we could win 2 or more. A late first is valuable but the Jets have to go for it this year.

as a jets fan I like this deal especially if the jets manage to re sign toews, but could also move out either jonsson-fjallby or appleton so we dont have a 6 million dollar 4th line, and i dont love how gustaffson wouldnt be playing his position because id like for him to develop at his position though he could rotate in at center sometimes so it wouldnt be a huge deal, and if we want to keep him playing center this deal would work only if he was waivers exempt so he could play more center in the ahl. but if this move was made id have no complaining. with moving stanley out I'd like the D lines to Morrissey with Schmidt, Dillon with Pionk, and Samberg with Demelo. could also move out brenden dillon for a cheaper dman like Nick Jensen or Brayden Mcnabb, or Jake McCabe at 50% retained.
