Pettersson is a 24 year old, elite 2 way 1C. He’s tied for the league lead in 5v5 goals. He is absolutely a great C, not just good
Lekkerimakki just got drafted 13 spots ahead of Kulich. It cost Arizona picks 27, 34, and 45 to jump to 11 in that draft. Let’s say Kulich and the two 2nds for Lekkerimaki with that favouring Vancouver a bit
Krebs and Hoglander are pretty similar right now
That leaves Cozens and a 1st for Pettersson. Cozens is solid, but it would take a huge overpay for the Canucks to move Pettersson, and that isn’t it
Elite? Crosby, Mckinnon, McDavid, Draisaitl, Eichel, Bergeron, Malkin, Matthews, those are Elite. Peterrsson is second tier center, with the likes of Barzal, Larkin, Thompson, Suzuki, Zibanejad, Tavares, Hughes, Hiscier, etc…
He is very good, and maybe this is the year he moves up, but a 20 game sample does not equal elite. As for Kulich, prospects are like sports cars; as mileage come on them you get to see what they can really do, and people have their personal preferences. Thus Lekkerimaki and Kulich come down to personal preference. Draft slot is irrelevant once they start to play the next season. But those two are a better comparison; as are Hoglander and Krebs.
Which the deal would leave Cozens a 1st, and 2 2nds for Peterrsson, which I still say is an overpay. Cut out the 2024 2nd rounder, and I still stand by this as a true hockey deal.
