One of which is a defenseman with 2nd pairing potential and that plays a mean gritty style both teams sorely need.
The other is a centerman who has middle-six potential with some silky... silky hands. Likely should of been a 1st round selection but fell into the 2nd.
An unprotected 1st in this years draft, that at this rate could wind up being a potential top 10 pick, or at the very least there are no impressions that it's protected.
And a NHL player. Who's a capable 3rd pairing defenseman that can play either side.
All this for a player, that while I love, isn't more than a 2nd-line center at best and that would come to the Wild strictly as a RENTAL that we can't afford to sign after this year.
It's an OVERPAY. You are severely overestimating his value if you think this is what he's worth as a Rental.
It's not.
Horvat is worth ONE of the prospects, not both, and the 1st as long as it's top 10/15 protected. The retention gets you Merrill.
Bottom line, Minnesota is giving up too much here.
