Bear could be serviceable if given the right situation. He looked really good playing with Slavin at the beginning of the year (that is more about Slavin). He needs to be paired with a good skating defensively responsible partner to make up for his defensive deficiencies, but he could play a good offensive game in that set up.

He’s a 3rd pairing guy, so as long as your expectations are managed…

Don't believe the Canes would be bringing back a bottom 6 forward for Bear. Don't really need another one right now. Someone waiver exempt would be a possibility.

Though Ottawa's RD looks like Zaitsev, Zub, Hamonic, Bernard-Docker, Thomson and Brannstrom.

Bear is marginally better than the current roster, and doesn't have as a high of a ceiling as the prospects.

Formenton's ceiling is higher than Bears, no team will touch him until the controversy has cleared, but even then, I'd expect him to fetch more than a 3rd pairing D and a late 4th rd pick.
