Crazy they got a guaranteed 1st for an unproven NHL prospect, he's no doubt talented but wow!

It's exactly what the Rangers did get for him. The OP even got the team acquiring him right.

What I don’t get is that since this is the type of player they would hope to draft with a late mid first round pick but a surer thing (vs trying to draft a guy then waiting four years to get where Nils is at now) but he’s more developed then why is it such a bad trade? Guy was great in the SHL and Rags fans seem to **** in the AHL development a lot, I think it’s more of a sure thing then drafting a guy next summer that’s probably in the Bichsel trajectory. I think Stars fans are let down that their dad traded an unopened pack of baseball cards for an opened one ruining the surprise... I think the fans of other teams that were in on Nils but didn’t get him are too attached to first round picks as well. The extra fourth is a depth pick or big gamble anyway if that’s the bidding war tax then fine.

I proposed a Dellandrea for Lundkvist 1 for 1 traded months ago but now starting to think about it, that still would need a sweetener since middle six centers are easier to find than mobile righty Defense. Fans would have been ok with losing Dellandrea as there’s newer shinier prospects now and he’s not super flashy but I think Management is already hoping he can fill some needs soon.

To put it another way I’d rather a former first potentially ready prospect (RFA with 2 years on ELC) vs dumping a contract or renting a Nick Foligno or David Savard, but we’re not in a desperate playoff push yet so it’s tough to criticize those trades but I know what I’d rather get with a first. With the way the near NHL depth charts look I’d say they would probably just grab another “What do we need more of in the pantry” depth chart hole filler like they did with most of 2022 draft.
