@dirtydangle

Value in the trade is good for Colorado, but:

1) Sakic/Cmac aren't ones to trade players with term (especially when they just signed MacDermid).

2) With a 21 man roster you can have $2.2m capspace with a 21 man roster which is good. But without MacDermid who can cover both 13F and 7D you have to carry an extra Dman along with a 13F, so it's really only $1.4m in capspace. Kinda risky to go that route with bonuses in mind.

I know Kerfoot got 51 points last season but describing him as a 50 point forward on that basis alone is a bit misleading. His career average is only just above 42 points, and 35 points in the playoffs.

Avs fans are also well aware of his limitations and why TML fans have included him in tonnes of trade proposals the last year or two.

I'd rather keep the assets and the capspace to ensure bonuses get covered and to accrue space for deadline pickups who fit the Avs identity better than Kerfoot does.

macdonald can dress as a f if need be.

i have no problem investing 2.5m for 1 year for someone who can play c and put up 40+ points

I would just like you to re read this again. Especially that first paragraph. Then I want yo to consider how many players I could use that same argument against from the Avs roster to acquire them for free.

Kerfoot is a solid 2 way mid 6 player with a decent cap hit. Avs depth is razor thin. Leafs have piles of depth and kerfoot is blocking young players. Leafs are tight to the cap but we are every season. We do not NEED to move any players. If kerfoot is moved it should be for a younger player, not waiver fodder.

Leafs fans include kerfoot in every trade over the last 3 years because they are idiots. My hunch is that kerfoot remains a leaf.

We don't. Avs are the ones having a hard time fitting kerfoots 3.5m due to PB's. Maybe leafs should take a few players from the Avs for free. If you send ud Newhook and Byram for free... you won't have to worry about there PB's. Does that sound fair?

That $2.5m could cause overages and force you to trade a key player in 2023... But yeah I get where you're coming from.

Go on then, use that same argument against some Avs players I'm all ears! 👂

Again, Avs fans know Kerfoots limitations. A lot of garbage points and soft play. Again, I'd rather have the capspace to pounce on better opportunities or use at the TDL than pay assets for Kerfoot. Only way I take him is with retention and costing nothing, which TML rightfully wouldn't do.

Lol what? Avs are in a very comfortable position capwise. Who cares about fitting Kerfoot, that's not the AVS problem. TML are the team needing to ice a 20 man roster tight to the cap which doesn't even include Sandin.

That is correct. But they ice a very complete roster with half a dozen young players that are nhl ready that can be called up on emegency basis. Toronto has no issues starting a season with 20 players. We've done it a few times. Sandin isn't signed because he doesn't have a spot on the starting roster. Dubas' mistake. Dubas isn't shopping kerfoot desperate for cap space. He is comfortable with his roster and depth. Leafs fit kerfoots full cap easily where Avs would need to run a 19 man roster to cover PB.

I'm not actually suggesting that Avs make that ridiculous trade. Just applying cap friendly fallacies to all teams equally rather than just the leafs. Avs, though they might not seem it are tight to the cap and are thin down the middle and have question marks for depth.

Cap friendly logic says it's a first to take him. Though I believe he could be moved cheaper. I don't think the Avs want to anyway.

That's true, but going into overages likely means being forced to trade a Dman or one of Meyers or Newhook which would be far from ideal. Without overages the cap is probably workable in 2023, just about

I don't see the Leafs wanting MacDermid. I would expect any Kerfoot trade would involve only picks coming back the other way to free cap room for the Leafs to sign ZAR and Sandin.

You hit the nail on the head in regards to keeping cap space to ensure Newhook/Byram potential bonuses get covered this year. Pushing the overages into next year would ensure having to deal a valuable asset. That's how Joe/CMac built this team. Try to win in the present but keep your eyes on the prize knowing what challenges the future brings in maintaining a Cup worthy team.
