Thompson has played 20 NHL games. Talbot is a starting goaltender that Vegas is in need of. Plus his deal ends after 1 year when Lehner will return. Branny had more minutes than Whitecloud did and is still a 22 year old young Dman. I think it's pretty fair for both sides.

Whitecloud is young burgeoning RHD on a cheap contract. If Branny has more minutes then just keep him, right? Why trade him? Your'e trading him because Whitecloud is better and helps you RIGHT NOW.

Talbot is goalie that's aging out and Thompson is a young future starting goalie. Why would Vegas move a young cheap starting goalie?

Thompson is signed @ 766k for 3 years, Whitecloud is signed to a good deal for 6 years. Brannstrom only played more minutes because Whitecloud is behind Pietro and Theodore.

There is no reason for Vegas to make this trade.

Because Brannstrom has potential to be better but we're trying to win now. Also different types of players. We're looking for a right shot Dman to be a stay at home defender.

Talbot helps Vegas win now. They need a guy who can reasonably play 50 games a season and put up decent numbers.

Thompson is developing. You realize he's just making his way into the NHL, right? Teams aren't just moving goalie prospects on his level.

These moves makes sense for OTT, not Vegas. They make sense to you because they have pieces you want. These are not mutually beneficial trades.

Ottawa gets the better dman now and give up a younger dman with more potential. Vegas gets the better goalie now and give up a younger goalie with more potential.

I Agree this never happens unless Vegas likes getting Fleeced. but I get he wasn't trying to be so 1 sided, but fans get biased and over value their own while undervaluing others needs and expectations.

Because they have a hole at G since Lehner is out for a year? They're relying on two guys who played 19 and 24 games last season.
It makes sense to me to trade your 5/6 defender for a starting goalie esp when getting back a 22 year old dman with potential who can fill that role and may be better in years to come.

Hey, how about this? The Pens want to win now. We could really use a good young forward. We'll trade you Alex Nylander for Stutzle. Nylander has a good season under his belt in the NHL and then got injured, but he should be good to go. Stutzle is the better player, but this lets us win now and you can win later.

I never said that it was a fair trade. I would be willing to throw in more as an Ottawa GM. My point was that I really like Whitecloud and the starting pieces of the trade make sense.
