While I think Newhook deserves to be 2C, I wouldn’t be shocked if it ends up being Rantanen or Compher next year.

Could easily be to begin with but I think he at least sees some time there.

I say Avs go get Kessel

Problem with Kessel is where does he fit? Have to use him as a top 6 wing really and the Avs are covered there. He's more of a luxury and I don't think the Avs could give him the term he'd want.

JT Comp can play C and when Kessel was in Pitt he made the famous HBK line which by the way was Pitts 3rd line that helped them win 2 cups

Imagine a 3rd line of Myers-Compher-Kessel

Kessel's playmaking, Compher's grit, and Myers all around game could make for something interesting

It certainly wouldn't be the worst option and Kessel could help the 2nd PP unit for sure. I still think term could be the sticking point though. I'm guessing Kessel will be looking for a place to run out his career now.

Kessel's at the end of his career probs signs a 1 year deal and then retires

Hes won his cups and made his money probs will try for one more than retire in 2023

Perlini sucks. Sign Gagner.

Gagner likely costs more but he's one I considered. Perlini is reasonably quick and the Avs have often taken a punt on guys to try and turn their career around. I still think Perlini could be a serviceable forward and if he panned out would give the Avs the option to move Compher if they wanted to.

Perlini has had so many chances because he was a first round pick. He's just not an NHL player. No one keeps him for long. His 9 lives should be up by now.

I can't see Gagner wanting too much money. He made 850K last season and I'm surprised he isn't signed yet.

Perlini is a waste you would literally be better of playing any prospect than wasting the cap space, dude couldn’t cut it on non playoff teams like AZ, CHI and DET.

Whole point is he's likely to warm the press box for the most part and better to keep a prospect actually playing in the AHL. Perlini also wasn't exactly well used by CHI, DET & EDM. That said he'd be a reclamation project and at 26 and 750k it would be worth the gamble imo and Sakic has shown willing to try such things before. Nichushkin for example worked. Yakupov for example......not so much.
