My thoughts on the package back to CHI for Kane, and making the deal work for the EDM cap:

- One of Yams or JP. Partly needed for salary reasons. I think EDM values Yams more so I'm going with JP

- One of Holloway/Bourgault/Broberg. Holloway would be my pick here but with him ready to play in the NHL I just see that being too valuable to give away. EDM can survive without Broberg since Bouchard is the real deal, but hawks have a logjam on D so i'm going with Bourgault

- a cap dump, in this case Tyson Barrie

- 2023 unprotected 1st. This should be a non negotiable

- conditional 2024 2nd as comp for taking Barrie. I'll say pick becomes a 1st if EDM wins the cup in 2023 or 2024

Not sure Columbus makes that trade, having Murphy and Gudbranson in 2 years will hurt the jackets when Jiricek, Peeke, Blankenburg and Boqvist will all need ice time too. Love Murphy, but he isn’t a fit long term with Gudbranson in Columbus already.

Also Columbus can’t afford Murphy’s cap hit without going over the cap.

What was the ask for Puljujarvi this off-season? Whatever it was the GM wasn't able to get it, 2nd and third seems steep for him.

Edit: Ah yes, seems I found the rumour. Oilers we're asking for a second for Jesse at the draft this past year and couldn't get it. So best we will offer is Min 2023 3rd, and a conditional 2024 5th if he puts up over 50 points.

absolutely disagree, especially after how he played to end last season. That combined with the leadership and cup/playoff expierience and a 2025 2nd is a light return imo. If Foligno could fetch a 1st why can't Toews? And we're not even talking about a 1st here it's a 2nd in 3 drafts from now

For a second with that much retention (as long as CHI pays for the retention) it might be worth the gamble on Toews (plus I like the idea of hearing Toews to Toews passes) but he does appear somewhat washed up tbh.
