Ottawa wouldn’t make that Whitecloud deal.

why not he is a solid defensvie dman on a very good contract considering i believe he will continue to get better. one thing ottawa lacks is defenceman who can hold their own in the d end. i keep seeing all these sanheim/chychrun/ dumba deal but yet none of those actually improve ottawa defensively much. whitecloud is that guy they need and everything he is good at is what chabot isn't good at and i think they would make a very good pairing. opposites attract

He’s been playing third pair minutes in Vegas and has done nothing to prove he’s a true top four guy. Not sure why you would think a 3rd pair righty is worth a high end goalie prospect and a 1st round pick

vegas defence was stacked that's a bad comp he was playing 3rd line minutes because he was bad he played 3rd line minutes because Pietrangelo and theodore were ahead of him.

they also had martinez as their 3rd pair LHD with whitecloud even though martinez is better then both mcnabb and hague. vegas just had 3 solid pairings.

everything ive see from vegas fans on HFboards is that they want theodore and whitecloud to be their 1st pair this season and then either of hague or mcnabb as pietrangelo's partner

I like him but as of now I wouldn’t trade a first round pick for him. And considering u only wanted the pick top 3 protected I would assume most sens fans would agree with me on this.

As a Knights and Sens fans, I'd yes from Vegas and no from Ottawa. Way too much to give up for a 3rd pairing defenseman, even though he's good and on a great deal, when the goal is to get a top 4 guy.

Maybe you could argue if you make that the 2nd round pick it's more feasible, but I'd rather we go for someone a bit better 😊 We have JBD who can step up and play the 3rd pairing ✌🏼

it is a 24 1st and considering after this season most the top dogs like florida/boston/tampa/ toronto will have to begin a bit of retool and might not be as strong as they will this season either because of age and players retiring or due to serious cap issues, ottawa has a high chance of being a PO team.

whitecloud is only 25 and could get marginally better especially playing with the likes of chabot as his offence might improve more, he is already top 30-40 defensively in the league. he is in the same situation as zub was once he first came to ottawa and he broke out at a later age then most and now he is ottawa's top defensive guy

JBD didn't make the best transition to the AHL from college and another thing that im trying to point out is Ottawa needs more defensive reliable guys. targeting chychrun/sanheim/dumba or hoping Thomson/JBD can step up doesn't solve ottawa's problem as all of those guys are more offensively orientated. right now the only top 4 defensively reliable guy they have is zub, sanderson is a 2way guy but the NHL is a different game then NCAA so we will seen how that area translates. but Zaitsev didn't turnout and hamonic isn't what he used to be, brannstrom is decent 2 way but more offensive.

With gus gone Sogaard is now heir apparent for OTT #1 spot, they are not trading him .
