Description
Signing Doah Dobson long terms here should be a priority
Bridging Romanov (comparable contract : Erik Cernak)
Use to pick acquire in the Varlamov trade to trade Bailey and Panik out to make room for Nazem Kadri (I hate that signing if it happens)

Too much for Romanov he’s never been more than a decent third pairing yet I think 2.25 x 3 or even 2.5 x 3 would be better and I really hope that Kadri deal doesn’t go through

Romanov was MTL #1 dman playing more minutes than Petry ... and did well there
He is already a top 4 dman, that's why NY paid that price, because he is an establish top 4 dman
Romanov will get between 2M and 3M, the year on the terms will determine the money
But he's no 3rd pairing dman, only on a contender with a solid defense he would be 3rd pairing

Analytically he was never really anything more than a third pairing defenceman sure he was playing #1 minutes but he was never ever even close to being a top line d man he was maybe a low end 4th defenceman with St Louis

Analytically Ben Chiarot brought a 1st + 4th + former 3rd RD pick prospect ... Romanov is a 22 yo top 4 LHD, he played like one and Chiarot is a top 4 dman as well, it's been what 5 years he's playing top 4 minutes and he will continu in DET. Maybe he's not the best, but he can handle minutes and if you can handle top 4 minutes, you are a top 4 dman

It doesn’t matter what he got at the deadline he doesn’t play like a top 4 d man look at his time with Florida he was their worst defenceman, Chiarot and Romanov aren’t top 4 have never been analytically, base stats and eye test. No that’s completely wrong because he plays top 4 minutes but doesn’t play good look at Seth Jones he plays top 10 minutes for d in the league but he’s not even a top 30 d man in the league ice time doesn’t = how good you are

Jones is a top 4 dman overpaid, you say there arent playing like top 4 dman but they are. You never seen Romanov play because eye test he is a top4 dman but low end, he's just 22 yo. But handling 20+ min a night on a regular bases is really good. Now he will play with Noah Dobson and Isles fans will be happy. Nurse is another top 4 dman overpaid, but he is a top 4 dman.

I still have hope for Romanov he’s young but as of now he hasn’t had been a top 4 defence impact wise for a whole season he played like a below average 4th d man under St Louis I also can’t blame Romanov too he was put in a position he wasn’t ready to play he will face worse competition plus will have a better d partner and could very well have a full top 4 defence season for the first time in his career

That’s after he played with St Louis before he was like 50% and 32% not to mention that’s exactly what I was saying a decent 4th d man his micro stats also weren’t good

Only Lehkonen was always good, everyone under Ducharme struggle because the guy can't coach a hockey team at all. Dvorak didnt looked like a guy worth a 1st + 2nd but under MSL he's been way better. Every players outside Poehling and Armia looked like completely new players (Poehling been decent on a limited role). Anyway, we all know Romanov will never be a #1 dman but he will probably anchor a 2nd pair for his career.

Moving bailey and picks to make space for Kadri should be a fireable offense. Just all around stupid move Bailey is still good and has value ( I love Kardi just wrong time to invest in an aging vet that contract will not age well) Just bailey 2.0 situation in 3-4 years. Kicking the ball down the road except this is a snowball only getting larger.

The fact that Romanov responded well to good coaching is a positive thing - Caufield had one of the worst underlying numbers in the league under Ducharme. The microstats only tracked 15 games, it's a small sample size and good microstats don't always lead to positive underlying numbers (ex Nick Leddy).

Under STL he was a solid 2nd pair two way defenseman. His offensive metrics skyrocketed under STL

His xGF/60 went from 2.08 to 2.54 , GF/60 2.15 to 2.71, HDCF/60 10.48 TO 11.12 , rebounds created/60 .18 to .35.

It's useless talking about Kadri, no one will love his contract
For Bailey I doubt he has positive value but I wouldnt be shock if he cost less to move

No you’re just wrong unless it’s a bad contract for Kadri, Bailey is the worst defensive player on the team and is the most one dimensional player on the team can’t do nothing but inzone playmaking can’t exit, can’t ain’t puck battles, can’t shoot etc he needs to be moved he is the odd man out and needs to go

Those micro stats are under St Louis so to say his metrics imploded with St Louis is a drastic overstatement since the whole teams metrics boosted every single players boosted by quite a bit he was a decent 4th defenceman I do have hope for him though

Suzukis analytics took a hit under STL.
