In all fairness to Dubas, it was Hunter that passed on Thomas. The Marleau trade ended up pretty bad albeit didn't have much choice at the time. Not trading Nylander instead was probably a mistake.

Good thing the Canes rejected that Pesce trade.

Hard to say with a nylander trade. Nylander is obviously the better player and Carolina was willing to pay pesce for him. The leafs would have a little more cap and have who would be their best defensive defenseman and the canes would have a goal scorer to go on the wing. Then again the canes didn’t have who they have currently in the top 6 so it all worked out fine for Carolina.
