Description
Ok so I know it seems kind of pointless but I think it could be a very interesting way of determining the high end depth. If you feel your teams 3 best prospect is somebody who I did not mention please let me know. LW is the best prospect, C is the 2nd best prospect, RW is the third best prospect. Goalies will have a created player to represent them. To qualify as a prospect a player must be calder eligible.

Now if each prospect is rated equally based on their spot it is possible to determine which pools are more even than others among their top 3 and we can determine the strength of their top 3 as well compared to other pools. It is a flawed system because the best prospect at every position counts for 1 point and there is also the fact that the 3rd or 4th best prospect in some pools are better then the best in other pools. It can be used to determine how balanced the pool is however because if the locations of the rankings get continuously better, they have a more balanced pool. NJ goes 4-2-1 which means they have a more balanced pool than say montreal who goes 3-16-13 which means they are more top heavy having slafkovsky as their number 1.

Again if you have any disagreements with the rankings let me know. I am trying to not have any bias so I am lower on my team and higher on teams I do not prefer. Results may be a little skewed because of that but I personally think these are good rankings and the best I can put out without bias.

I do see where you are coming from with the NHL readiness argument but imo that just results in a prospect being more projectable. Minnesota is my third ranked pool yet wallstedt and yurov are both at least a year away from the NHL. The rankings aren’t exactly on how soon they make an NHL impact but how much of an impact can be projected 5 years from now. Some of these prospects in my opinion will be out of the NHL 5 years from now so when it comes to the rankings of colorado, I put their prospects with NHL projectability over those who I don’t think could be in the league 5 years from now. With colorado having just won a championship I would expect their pool to be bottom tier and again, these are just three prospects and does not reflect the entire pool. Oulasson is my 86th ranked NHL affiliated prospect post draft but that doesn’t mean I think he is going to be a bad player, more of low ceiling issue. I do see the argument that they would be coming soon being something that could raise them, but imo they projectability 5 years from now is lower even though they could be better than other pools as others have more of a boom or bust aspect to them being less projectable.

This is fair, none of their top prospects are 1st level. I was probably butt hurt most about being ranked last!

It was me and just cause some random guy on CF thinks they aren't as good or don't have as high of a ceiling as Slafkovsky doesn't make it accurate. BTW Guhle-Slavkovsky-Farrell are our top 3 prospects with Roy-Hutson-Mesar fighting for 4th to 6th. Guhle's ceiling is a #1 D man in the mold of Weber with a floor of a #3 D man. Slafkovsky has a high ceiling of a potential superstar like Jagr but also a floor of a 3rd line winger. Farrell is very very underrated and has an elite winger (Marner type) ceiling with top 6 floor, Mesar has a 1st line ceiling but also middle 6 floor, Roy has a 1st line ceiling but middle 6 floor floor.

Ah I feel you. From an outsider view I do think they’re good prospects for sure and all boom or bust. I think if 2-3 of them boom it looks great for the habs future but at least 1 should boom imo. Farrell I do think is a solid 4 option and Roy is also has an argument there too. Roy was just under 2 PPG in his D+1 year in the Q which is really good. I believe he is one of the best producers under the age of 20 in the Q. Farrell is a tough situation based on his play with coronato. With coronato his numbers were better than without and imo coronato is a better prospect than farrell. With my previous reasoning, mesar played well against men therefore I rank him third in the pool. After that I think it goes Roy farrell and Hutson but that is just my opinion. You are the habs fan so you know their pool better and I wouldn’t be surprised if you could name 15+ habs prospects off of the top of your head. For these lists I have a super in depth look at canes prospects and I have certain prospects I know very well I would say. The habs pool I know those 6 decently with a lot video I have seen of slafkovsky and by proxy mesar. Also I watched more Slovakian games because of nemec as well. Just watching slafkovsky gave me a good sense of mesar and he was a guy I had ranked high 20s. Tbh I think he is better than korchinsky but based on draft location I bumped him below korchinsky even though I believe he is better. Finally, it’s all subjective. They’re all good prospects imo but between mesar Roy and farrell, it’s splitting hairs. Very difficult to project but I am excited for the habs future tbh.

I know it's a Habs article and employee saying it but read what Adam Nicholas had to say about Farrell. Nicholas is the Habs new skills development coach, his former clients/students include Chara, Greenway, Keller, Hanafin and Coyle, the guy knows skill.

Farrell also played against men in both the Olympics and the WC, he lead the Americans with 6 points in 4 games at the Olympics and 6 points in 10 games at the WC. Sure those are smaller sample sizes but it shows he has the skill and IQ to succeed against men.

Cardiac Great job, I am sure this required a lot of research and time.
As to Peterka or Savoie, I have seen different pundits flip flop them, so either one would be fine, but Peterka certainly had a great first year in the AHL.
He scored more pts than any other 19/20 yo, and most males do not reach their physical maturity for several years later, so he will have a great future.
If Savoie is better, Buffalo will have an elite top 6 in two or three years.
I presume your 2-4-3 was Power-Quinn-Peterka/Savoie if that is the case, Power is considered the #1 NHL Prospect, should one of the numbers have been a one?
I presume most pundits over look Levi's record setting NCAA season because he is shorter than most NHL GK, but I would certainly think he could have made your GK list.
Final observation, since it is debatable who is Buffalo's 3rd prospect, I would suspect that would indicate their depth would be the best?

Unfortunately, how a prospect will perform is not an exact science, as Buffalo had the top ranked pool 10 years ago and none of them became top NHL players.

That is a sad last sentence but true nonetheless. However I do think Power, Quinn, and Peterka all become great NHL players. As to the rest of the pool I don't have 100% confidence, but I like what I see for the most part
