I'd pass on the trade just because both Miller and Horvat are pending UFAs who will most likely be able to command $8M+ next summer, while Beau is signed for an extra year and the team would maintain RFA rights over Barzal for at least one more year. So you're sacrificing the control over two key top 6 players for a slight upgrade (Miller>Beau but Barzal>Horvat IMO), and meanwhile you're trading away Mayfield to take on a more expensive, worse player, with more term.

I don't like the trade from the Isles perspective at all. I think Vancouver also passes because if they're trading Miller & Horvat they can get a better return separating them.

Both teams decline. Isles aren’t trading Barzal for 2 pending UFAs that will get overpaid next summer. And Vancouver isn’t trading Horvat at all I don’t know why people keep trading him.

You know I’ve had to ask myself in recent days if I’m rejecting all these Miller trade ideas cause I’m biased towards the isles. And upon reflection I think I’m just biased towards keeping the younger player lol. There’s no reason the isles should trade Barzal because in the long term it doesn’t make sense for them.

Like the Isles would have to trade Barzal if someone like the Sabres called up and offered some combination of Cozens, Krebs and Savoie. But those kind of offers don’t happen for a reason. I don’t think we should use the Tkachuk trade as a model for other trade proposals because it was a very unique situation and in the long term idk if it works out for Calgary.

Edit: I clarified that I don’t think the Tkachuk trade should be used as a standard for trade proposals. My first post had grammatical issues.

In my opinion you shouldn’t trade 24 year olds for 29 year olds. In the long term that Tkachuk trade might bite Calgary in the ass. I think it only happened because they want to stay in win now mode. But in the long term I’m not sure it was the right move.
