If it means giving up all that, no they shouldn't. Huby is a solid player, but they have Panarin, Laf, Kakko, Kreider, Kavstov, Blais in their top 9 wing spots. As good as Huby is, all he's going to do is take away even more ice time from the young guys who desperately need it to actually develop. This only hurts the team now and later. And definitely not for just two months. That's how you wind up like Florida.

Rentals still don't get that much in return. A 1st, a player and a prospect. Not a player, two top prospects and a 1st and a 2nd. If he had term then that's fine but he doesn't.

There is a major difference between the Oilers and Rangers though. The rangers were god awful while looking for that next big thing, the Rangers aren't. They can actually let the young guys develop into what they can be. Are they going to be as good as Huby, maybe not. Are they going to be worth more than 2 months of Huby? Absolutely and it's not even a debate.

Btw, those Oilers didn't just land McDavid. They also landed , Nuge, Drai, and Nurse. Should they have traded them all for one good player just because they weren't working out? Of course not. Then all they would have is McDavid and one good player. But if that's not convincing, let's talk about how they did exactly that with Hall and Eberle. They weren't quite what they needed, so they traded them for what they thought they needed and it bit them back hard later.
