Canes pass. Miller isn't worth it. Gardiner isn't buyout eligible, so that isn't an option. They don't have the cap for this. Plus, I wouldn't give up a 1st in this draft for a rental

If an extension was given (included a multi year contract) would you take the offer then? You guys can dump Jesper Fast to another team and get some picks in return. That will give you enough cap space to acquire JT for next year. Then Pacioretty and Staal’s contract expiring should make it easier to pay JT big money for his future contract next year.

Fast isn't a dump. He's a very very valuable player. You might get 4 mil back from Staal (assume he re-signs at 2 mil). You then need to replace/re-sign Andersen, Raanta, Pacioretty, Fast... and the year after? Pesce, Skjei, Teravainen, Jarvis, and some dude names Aho. If you survive that? Slavin, Burns... there's no space for Miller with an extension. It doesn't work, it's not viable.
