The Devils can't afford all that retention. They will a cap team with all their RFAs signed. At this point they are just trying to unload AJ.

You are living in a fantasy world if you think a middle 6 forward, a high end young dman, and essentially 5 early round picks for an expiring player is an “easy no”. Eichel didn’t even get that type of return and he has several years on his deal

I don't think that Devils trade works due to the cap, and the value is kinda lopsided in the Leafs favour anyway.
I think Severson retained + McLeod + a mid rd pick would be fair for two years of Nylander, and workable for both parties.
Devils would then have to move one winger out and Leafs find some other taker for Holl.

Canucks would be in tough to meet the cap with that deal. Even if we bury Dickinson it only leaves us $935,833 to fit Sandin in so we'd be in the same situation as Toronto: struggling to get him signed. Would need another trade to open up cap space as well (or to retain $1m less on Miller and then sign him to $1.9m).

I do think the value is fair though, hard to tell what Miller is really worth but I'd go along with that I think.
