If Roy is signing that he’s 100% staying in vegas. This is a terrible return for him too.

COL isn’t doing that. Dvorak and at least a 2nd is the starting point of the conversation.

How much cap space does Vegas have? 4 dollars?

Both of those deals feel like desperation moves for the Avs. Habs accept because they fleeced you, Knights decline because they can afford that; they're in a tight spot except they can exceed the cap by the $7.8M Weber LTIR contract. They still have Kolesar, Roy and Hague to sign but they'll probably just dump another contract (bye-bye, Alec Martinez) to make it work.

I feel like you misspelled Kaiden Guhle... No interest in Dvorak whatsoever.

His possession metrics are terrible, struggles to stay healthy, and has never eclipsed 40 points. Why in god's name would you give up an asset like Girard, a top-4 defenseman signed at a team-friendly deal for the next five years, for him? I'd rather take futures and sign Kadri than settle for Dvorak

How much term are you giving 32 year old Kadri?

At $6-6.5m, I'd go 5-6 years. Cap will go up soon and that's a deal you can get out of near the end if you have to. If he wants $7m and above, then yeah, I'm probably out. Doesn't mean I'm settling for Dvorak though.

So you’re cool with probably buying out the Kadri deal 4 years in on a 5/6 year deal?

Stanley Cup windows stay open for 3-4 years max. The time to go for it again is NOW. It happened to Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and we're watching it happen in real-time with Tampa Bay. In four years time, there will be another team that dominates and it probably won't be the Avs. Landy will slow down, Toews will price himself out, etc. In 4 years time, trade Kadri with retention and see what you get. We've seen teams get out of deals like that without it costing a fortune.

Pittsburgh window was only 3-4 years? Won in 2009 and then back to back in 2016/17 having guys like Makar,Byram, and even Rantanen 25 and MacKinnon 26 shouldn’t mean the Avs need to close the window very soon. Giving Kadri a 3+ year deal is asking for the Avs to invite more problems. This past season isn’t a regular thing for him in terms of stats.

Pittsburgh's Results:
08-09: Cup win
09-10: Lost in 2nd Round --> Drafted Bryan Rust
10-11: Lost in 1st Round
11-12: Lost in 1st Round --> Drafted Olli Maata, Derrick Pouliot, Oskar Sundqvist, and Matt Murray
12-13: Lost in Conference Finals --> Drafted Tristan Jarry, Jake Guentzel
13-14: Lost in 2nd Round --> Drafted Kasperi Kapanen
14-15: Lost in 1st Round
15-16: Cup win
16-17: Cup win

They reloaded with good young players from '09 to '15. Guys that made a difference in the playoffs for them. Every team who makes it far in the playoffs has superstars, but it's ultimately depth players that make the difference. Just look at Edmonton this year for reference. This window is open. Will there be another one in the future with our core? Probably, but we have 2-3 years to take advantage before we need to reload.

As for Kadri, you could be right. But if I have to pay $2m more to get a guy whose eclipsed 40 points 7 times in his career versus a guy who's never done it? Yeah, I'm gonna take Kadri. Again though, if we're talking $7-8m, I'm out. Try to deal Girard for Horvat + or see if you could get guy like Tage Thompson, Troy Terry, etc.

Dvorak just doesn't cut it for me.

With Weber and Patrick on LTIR they would currently have $7,662,500 to sign Roy, Hague and Kolesar. Kolesar will be in the $1m-$1.5m range and Hague has no arb rights so that should be more than enough. It also seems as though Lehner may not be able to start the season so that's potentially another $5m that could be placed on LTIR, though I doubt it would be necessary since there will likely be another trade (Brossoit) to clear up some more room.

Newhook. Alex Newhook. Trading for Dvorak is hoping a 26yr old guy on his 3rd team is all the sudden is going to produce at a level he never has, where as Newhook is your own 21yr old former 1st rd pick who had 33pts in his rookie year on the 3rd line. Yeah I’ll go with him.
