I think the cap circumvention rules only apply to contracts that were traded between the same two teams and in that case it would have to be more than one year after the fact before they are traded back to the same team. But seeing as he is a UFA, I don't see any reason it would be a problem. I could be wrong though. But I'm too lazy to look it up right now. haha

I like the cap circumvention. Viable option, improves the hawks future and improves the canes current corps. Gotta be sure it is completely legal tho. I’d imagine bettman is not happy with this move

I'm pretty sure it's been done before. The trade would probably have to be done during the season before the TDL, and not during the summer immediately after CHI signs him. That would be the least suspicious situation. But yeah, do that. I would also like to know.

You can do it. Brooks Orpik had something kinda similar...sent from WAS to COL on June 22nd 2018...bought out two days later by the Avs and then went and signed again with WAS a month after he was traded away. Once someone becomes a UFA...it's a true UFA. So Nino can sign wherever he likes and then he can be traded just like everyone else.

That's what I thought. And it makes a lot of sense logically too.
