If the habs wont pay for him then we will

Description
Clear he only wants to play in montreal but to get a guy like PLD for two seasons at 50% price is clearly a smart move. PLD should be fetching a kings ransom and the habs won’t pay that so to get a two season rental is a good move. Puts the team in contention to win 2 cups in a row. Even if PLD walks, a cup is worth it to make the trade. Who knows if he likes the winning culture in carolina he may even stay. Montreal fans don’t want to pay for him so other teams probably call and make a move like this

That’s what I’ve been saying. He doesn’t turn the habs into a playoff team and just means the picks over the next two years will be awful.

Precisely. If he wants to be a Hab that bad he can join as a UFA when the cap is up and we are ready to be a playoff team again

Jets would want a young center back and I don't think Drury is a replacement yet. I think the Jets would be more interested in a Marty Necas.

I think the real issue is that nobody is retaining 50% on Dubois for two years. He has value without Winnipeg doing this. It seems like everyone keeps forgetting how much Johansen and Duchene fetched on the trade market. Winnipeg is going to be ok here lol.

It may be an overpay but if you win two cups is it an overpay? Dubois is IMO a solid 1C. He’s honestly a top guy who can slide in and help a team win a cup in two years. His G/60 and A1/60 are both really good. Could put him with necas and watch them go off or play him on the 2nd line and have crazy numbers. He’s not overrated in the sense he is a 24 year old 1C. 2 years of that is worth it and best case scenario he resigns in carolina and shatters the hearts of habs fanswink

Probably starts with Necas, Drury and Morrow which is a lot but it’s probably fair based on recent deals like Eichel. I think the real issue is Winnipeg might say no if they can’t get Jarvis out of Carolina.

I agree necas is more of a commodity but I think a large reason why Carolina would make this trade is to put PLD on a line with necas. Drury Imo would’ve been playing in the NHL this past season if he was on a worse team. Canes had a backlog of Cs this pst season and the loss of trocheck means he comes up this season. If necas does go back in a PLD trade I would say the futures get a lot worse. Personally the big reason the PLD trade happens is to get necas a guy who fits his playing style. I think his value will have tanked as well being that he is a 2 year rental. Canes knowing that aren’t giving up a future in a guy like necas for 2 years. Even then this package I think is one of the best the jets get

Both duchene and johansen were completely different in the fact that they weren’t vocal about wanting to play in only one market. Look at a guy like Adam fox who was like that. Canes got some picks for him when they could’ve had nothing. PLD is less valuable than those other two as the other guys were guaranteed to leave their current markets but not guaranteed to leave the market they go to. Most of the return they got on the backs of duchene or johansen is based on the fact that they were not guaranteed rentals. The fact that PLD is essentially a rental shows his value is less than those guys. This package is plenty fair IMO and PLDs market value is lower than the others as he is vocal about wanting one team.

The Adam Fox comparison doesn’t make sense cause Fox was in college and could just become a UFA. Also the idea Dubois is only a rental and that he only wants to be in Montreal seems kind of ridiculous. Everyone said Johnny Gaudreau wanted to be a flyer and now he is in Columbus. Also he’s not worth less than Johansen and probably not worth less than Duchene was either. Especially considering two years of control means ur not a rental.

Don’t take this the wrong way but anyone trying to get Dubois on their roster would make this argument. He’s too good for most of the trade proposals on this website. Look at what Eichel got. For ****s sake Eichel’s most significant accomplishment bringing an end to Vegas’s playoff streak.

Look I get ya but necas and morrow are both not going for a rental. You are trying to base a deal off of eichel while eichel was signed for the next like 5-6 years I forget which it is exactly. With league wide knowledge of PLD being what it is, it’s why he is not going to fetch eichel return as he is 1) not as good as eichel, and 2) he is a rental. Trading top tier futures for a rental isn’t the best move. Jarvis especially, he has an argument for being more valuable than every player on the canes other than aho svech and slavin. I know fans overuse the term untouchable but Jarvis is the most untouchable guy you have mentioned. If PLD was coming for 8 years then maybe u can bring in the guys you mentioned but the fact that he likely leaves in 2 years tanks his value.

Eichel is incredibly overrated. Dude isn’t better than Aho or Barzal. Wouldn’t go #2 in a redraft. This idea that two years of Dubois means he is a rental is kind of ridiculous. Like I said we all thought Johnny Hockey would be in Philly or NJ. The media doesn’t know what the **** they r talking about.

We will agree to disagree. We clearly do not see eye to eye on this as I view it as one of the best packages PLD gets and u see it as a massive underpay. We just do not see eye to eye. We aren’t GMs. If you asked me a week ago what I thought pacioretty would get I would’ve said at minimum a first. It’s unpredictable but if you see this as an underpay we will just agree to disagree.

I wouldn’t say it’s the media. It’s PLDs agent. It’s the fact he went to the draft expecting to be traded to montreal. There are no sure things but this is stronger than the guadreau argument.

I could c Askarov being a key piece if they are able to resign PLD as part of the deal. I don’t c Tomasino being moved and I’m probably wrong that Askarov gets moved. But they have a deep prospect pool and all of their future picks.

The real reason behind me arguing in favor of a Nashville trade is that you might be able to win a cup if he’s centering the top line with Forsberg.

I could see Nashville being a location but it’s hard to see them being cup contenders with PLD. Also who goes back to be cap compliant. Johansen is the first that comes to mind. Hard to see a team even if it is gotten with all futures that contends in Nashville. They are relatively top heavy as is. Only 5 players over 60 points and 6 over 40. If you look like a team like colorado, they had 5 players over 60 as well but they had 8 over 50. The depth is the problem for Nashville. They are a mediocre team tbh, if they were to trade for futures with a guy like johansen, it could result in the team being much deeper but it’s hard to see with josis window closing by the time they are good. Hard to see Nashville contending tbh, they are just a wildcard/3 seed team at best imo.
