Description
Checking in on GM Tom Fitzgerald to do list for the off-season….

1. Goaltender to complete with Blackwood - check (kind of with VV).

2. Another “big, mobile” dman - incomplete for near-term, check for long-term (adding a few options in draft and Fitzy could be thinking Mukhamadullin here long-term and plan was always for expanded roles for Bahl and/or Okhotiuk).

3. Some “heavier skill” on the wing - incomplete (this is the big question mark of the day).

4. Add to coaching staff - check (Burnette)

FYI- here is my write-up from beginning of off-season: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3228764

The fact that Gaudreau wasn’t a first minute signing tells me NJ is not a sure thing. They’re probably the slight favorite, but clearly Johnny is willing to listen. Hoping Lou can bend his ear jusssst enough

I think Gaudreau to Philly is done…just waiting on cap moves first.

Wants to go home & home is not Newark. Ellis trade first domino to drop, more to come

      Did they trade Ellis?
I’m betting on JVR to Chicago along with picks

I saw a rumor, could be bs, but makes sense for Philly

If NJ is out on Johnny, I'd take one year of JVR if a first or second plus attached. Low risk in walk year

Never liked the JVR to NJ rumors in the past, because of that contract ... but with one year left, why not, he certainly fits a need. Its been a long time since he put up 30, but working the slot / in front of net for Hughes, I could see 30 for JVR. Contract drive year. Wouldn't be a terrible consolidation... then 2023 free agency, you get JVR, Tatar, Johnsson, Graves, Haula & Sever (if not resigned) coming off payroll. Maybe Pasta shakes free

It would keep a lot of flexibility for next year. Bring us Pasta!

I forgot Bernier comes off too. With only Siegenthaler a must sign RFA, Fitz has set himself up as a player next year.

Siegs, Smith, Graves and Severson all due for new deals…and Nemec, Hughes, Mukhamadullin on their way.

      Big decisions on blueline looming.

No bank breakers there ... tough decisions, but plenty of dry powder to get deals done ... trade, UFA or both. I know everyone wants immediate progress, but I like this organic growth route. Maybe next offseason you go big.

That's a good point, but then again Dougie Hamilton signed really late on Day 1 last year. I think the negotiation aspect takes some time even if there is a clear front runner.

      Smith - $1m to $1.5m bridge
      Siegs - $3-5m on 4-5 year deal
      Graves - $4-6m on 4-5 deal
      Severson - $6-7m on 5-6 year deal

Could probably afford all of them. But gotta leave space for the kids.

I think Graves walks (or dealt at deadline just before Luke arrives, if we are out). Others extended. Severson moved if he is asking for full NTC or NMC.

Yeah, I can't see them keeping both Sever & Graves. Its one or neither i suspect, based on ask, as you say. Will be interesting
