Ottawa isn’t doing that. Murray at 3 mill doesn’t cost trading a 1st to move especially in a super deep draft .

Not a chance any team would agree to those conditions. One of this big hits against Murray is that he's been very injury prone. A condition on him starting half the season is a non-starter. Beyond that obvious one, the conditions are fighting against each other. He needs to be good enough to start 41 games but be bad enough in doing so that he has a sub .900 save %.

It's only moving a first if he's bad for TOR and OTT doesn't succeed. Plus OTT receive a 2nd in return as well.

I mean if he's good and can stay healthy, TOR basically gets them a decent goalie for no cost - Ottawa just doesn't have to pay to move him. That's the gist behind the whole idea. Both teams win.

If TOR acquires him and he stays bad, they receive a compensation.

EDIT: That being said, I just noticed a mistake in the wording there. It should read "is unable to play over 41 games" , not "plays at least 41 games." My b.

But its not just if he stays bad. They have to use him while he's staying bad. It makes no sense for any team to agree to that condition.

Saw you edited your above post. That makes a lot more sense.

That's depending on Ottawa's success. It wouldn't do if they keep on being bad that Leafs received a Top10 pick while OTT retains salary.

Toronto would need to unload an expensive contract or two to Ottawa and Sens keeps their pick.

Two reasons why I don't think that works

    1) Toronto as it stands doesn't have bad contracts aside from Muzzin but

    2) Ottawa is looking to shed salary (main reason why they want to get rid of Murray) so adding some makes very little sense

Ottawa is always looking for value contracts and we have the cap space. Muzzin's cap hit is $5,625,000 while his actual salary for the 2 remaining years is $4M and if they wait to make the trade after signing bonus, then sens only need to pay him $2M this year.

And the main reason for Ottawa to trade Murray is that we currently have 3 goalies on NHL contracts. We are going with Forsberg/Gustavsson tandem since Murray is often injured and not consistent.

There's no value included in neither Murray or Muzzin. I kinda like the idea of 1-on-1 move between them tho.

If that's the case, they would just buy him out.

You would think! This is what most teams would do... which is why most sens fans are confused with the Leafs trade rumours.
