Leafs are much better signing Campbell for 5m, and then keeping Sandin,Kallgren, Knievs, and the two picks than trading for 6.4m Gibson.

Huge overpay for Gibson

Gonna have to sadly agree here. Gibby is not who he was from 2015-2018. He started to fall off 2019 and hasn’t been the same really since. His GA/60 and xGA/60 have been continuing to worsen and GSAx60 was at a career low for him. I do think he is an asset tho with him being a 28 year old goalie signed till he is 33 who generally makes the saves he is supposed to make and doesn’t save what he’s not supposed to save. In general I would just consider him an average goalie who I consider an asset right now because of previous play early on in his career, being a solid starter, and having term on his contract. Probably takes a first and amirov at max.

I’m a ducks fan and that’s too much for Gibby. That said, I really don’t see Anaheim retaining salary over 5 years as a team that operates at an internal cap so if you try for that it will have to be an overpayment of some sort

It's funny how past success only affects certain players or teams. Gibson hasn't been good for 3 full seasons, still is worth a 1st and a good prospect. Funny how that works

I mean dach puts up 27 points and fetches 13th OA and his past success was in juniors so yeah. Gibsons value doesn’t come from his past success, it comes from the fact he is a serviceable goalie entering his prime with 5 years of term. While he hasn’t been elite I still consider him decent. Top 15 or top 20 goalie in the league imo. I’d consider him on par with jack Campbell tbh at the moment. Not good, but if the team in front of him is, he will preform well. U may say campbells stats are that much better but from what I recall the ducks and the leafs are two different teams and the ducks are the worse of the two.

A 20 year old centre is not the same thing as a 28 year old with 3 successive bad seasons.

U avoided the points of him being on par with Campbell. The advanced stats are about the same. Gibson is younger and has the same advanced stats as Campbell. Gibson isn’t a bad goalie by any means but given the right system he will be looked upon favorably. The dach point is to show that teams still value former success. If gibson is really that bad then why aren’t the ducks shopping him? They know they have an above average goalie, not elite, but better than half the league.

If he's on par with Campbell, 6+ million is way too much.
