Edmonton Accepts. I would try to hold out for a bit more if I were Chicago though.
Ottawa Accepts (I made a similar trade earlier but no retention and Branstrom also going to Chicago) - I don't know if Chicago retains on Jones for that long. Good for Ottawa if they do.

I could see no retention depending on who the other team is.
But I'm not sure it really matters too much for Chicago there gonna have a LONGGG Rebuild even if they get Bedard at least 4 years to be respectable again IMO.

Hawks are not retaining for 8 years on Jones. I think the way they get him moved is by taking back a bad contract that is 2 or 3 years in length to give the acquiring team time to align their cap to afford his hit. AS questionable as the return in the Cat deal was....this proposal would get Davidson fired immediately. Taking on 2 cap dump contracts, retaining for 8 years, and the best asset you get back is likely a mid first rounder.

The Edmonton trade is pretty light, especially when it includes taking Barrie who would be of little to no interest for the Hawks. Even if you view Barrie as more neutral then necessarily a dump, if you take him out of the deal Kane as a deadline rental gets more then the rest of that package every trade deadline. If you are talking about a full season of Kane in a Summer acquisition....I think you are replacing Barrie with one of Holloway/Bourgault/Broberg to make that happen. Only way this is close is if Kane backs the Hawks into a corner and will only except a trade to a couple teams. My assumption is that Kane will be open to somewhere around a dozen teams that are legit cup contenders. The Hawks will pay a 4 million dollar bonus of the 6.9 he is owed in real salary this season and to get a thrid team to retain half of the half the Hawks can't of his cap will be very little in real money for a middling pick. In other words, Kane available for a cap hit at 2.62 for the entire season even as a pure rental with no intention or financial (cap) ability to get extended will is getting a better return.
