But let's image DeBrincat next contract was 8.75m or about 1.5m less than. Gaudreau's. Then the Hawks also get three picks....including the seventh overall. I was one (of few) who thought the Hawks did OK with the DeBrincat. If they can spend the DeBrincat "cap" on another high player and get the same value/production......then it's an even trade. The picks, a bonus.

Sure. I think on aggregate with all the moves they did alright, but the return in a vacuum was weak.

Yea, in a flat cap league.....10m seems like an overpay. But of course it happens all the time. From a players view.......if you're offered 9m and 10m from various teams, shouldn't the money difference be a non factor? Go where you think you will be the "happiest."

Yea, but don't we all know regular working people who turn down more money and a different job.....cause they like their current situation, don't want to move, their spouses wants, their kids schooling.
I would hope that star players, who have more money than they know what to do with (or their childrens and future grandchildren) take in all factors, not just $$$$
