With Romanov plus thoughts

Description
Look, a 2nd round pick or something lesser wasn’t going to get this deal done. Maybe #13 was a tad rich but I’m over it. If JT Miller broke down over an extension issue (very real possibility) I’d rather have Romanov than make the 13th pick. There are not a ton of sexy names left on the trade block we could have used this pick to acquire. Romanov cap savings at LD2 is significant. Makes signing a bigger ticket UFA a lot easier if money is moved out. And what’s also encouraging is Lou recognizes we need an improvement at Forward

Romanov is very physical. Loves to hit and block shots. He moves the puck a bit but not exactly a Leddy type. Solid LD2 option and played in front of Sorokin over in the KHL.

Lou was in the market for a LD, and he got one that can team up with Dobson long term.

Not gonna lie I was really confused and didn't love it at first (because it sounded like we were getting JT Miller) but I've warmed up to the deal. BUT, Lou needs to improve the forward unit before this summer is over. That's next on the to do list

Yeah I'm not sure where Varly goes but I think he should be traded. I could very easily see Lou keeping him though.

Based on what Georgiev returned, I think 2 2nd’s or something comparable should be the floor for Varlamov.

EDM, TOR, NJ, WSH, BUF should all be in the market for a goalie. Kuemper, Campbell, Husso lead the UFAs. Maybe Gibson available via trade too. But if we are playing goalie musical chairs I think Varlamov could find a new home if the return is right

Did the same thing in New Jersey. Let's not discuss Toronto lol

MTL are receiving a lot of calls for Jake Allen as well (lower cap hit)
