TOR will be forced to buy him out. They won't be able to pay any team enough in assets to take him. The best case scenario is TOR retaining 50% if someone will take him for that price.

Mrazek has negative value. The leafs would have to incentivize teams to take him. As far as buyouts being the worst thing ever? They're certainly not ideal, but they are far from uncommon.

I think the leafs could find a buyer if they retain 50% which would be better than a buyout. The buyout keeps them on the hook for four years.

I agree he has negative value, that's why I'm saying a pick + prospect deal could potentially get it done. Realistically the teams taking him on are not going to be competitive and be close to the cap ( Chicago for example), so retaining would be unnecessary, not to mention Leafs cap space needs this year. Though your right retention would probably be better then buyout, I see the latter more likely.

Sorry, I kind of misread what you said. I think the only team that would probably take a 3rd + prospect is AZ. BUF is trying to put something together, so I don't think they'd make a deal like this right now. I think a 3rd plus 50% retention would be doable to many teams.
