Description
Fix the biggest hole of top 4 LD and partner for parayko. Of the options, I like chych the best because of his contract. I know he’d be the most expensive to acquire but he’s 2 million less AAV than someone like provorov. Would add more to get him if needed. Pay almost any price to get it done as long as we keep one of our first round picks from this year and next and one of Bolduc and neighbors. This also gets scandella off the books without a cap penalty the three years after this season when we’ll need that space even more. Keep all the UFAs and make decisions in the off-season. My guess would be vladdy and barbashev aren’t signed. Especially if Barby puts up another big year and wants a big contract. Give Perron 3 years to keep the aav low and really front load it so that if a buyout was needed, it would be cheap. 4th line is still pretty weak. I like Dak a lot and think bitten could make the step this year too. Dak had a great AHL playoffs. All these guys would more or less cycle in and out with some of the other top Ahl guys. Torpchenko will reclaim his spot when he’s healthy. Maybe some deadline magic if these guys aren’t getting it done on the bottom line. Also neighbors might be able to make the jump at some point. Don’t rush him but also don’t not call him up when he’s ready.

I'm sorry I'm not willing to overpay with a roster player, and NHL Top 20 Prospect and realistically an A- to B+ prospect in Bolduc plus a first round pick in a deep draft and another 2nd. Chych hasn't even ever played a full season. If he can't stay healthy he's not gonna help effectively.

My preferences would be Gavrikov or Soucy or even a younger dude like Sandin. In other words, someone cheaper and more suited to the role.

I don’t know if suited for the role is the right choice of words there. Soucy is a more of a 4-5 guy, we need a 2-3 guy. Sandin is just as unproven as Perunovich. I doubt gavrikov is available. Wouldn’t mind the move for sandin or gavrikov but don’t think it fills that spot right now. Maybe in a few years but not sure it’ll matter then

Soucy has been playing top 4 for like two years now, buddy. And quite well. He'd be a great fit with Colt.

Sandin is somewhat unproven, but also a pretty sure bet to be a solid, well rounded top 4 guy for a decade or more.

Gavrikov very well may be unavailable. Or he could be eying UFA next summer, which would likely convince Columbus to cash in. We shall see. Gavrikov, like Soucy, is practically a dream fit for Colt.

I don’t hate Soucy but he’s been a 4-5 guy. Look at ice time for defensemen from Seattle last year. He was 5th. Buddy.

But say you go after sandin our Soucy. What are realistic packages?

I don’t see the leafs letting go of sandin easily. They will definitely try to move Muzzin as far as their LD go.

Barbashev + kostin for sandin and a 3rd?

For Soucy do something like 2024 2nd and a 3rd or 4th?

Maybe add more to package in scandella to Seattle. I think it’s definitely worth trying something like that if you can’t get one of the bigger names. I just think chych would be perfect. I get the price would be high and I hate selling the future but at 4.6 you can still operate for years to come.

Heh. Total TOI doesn't determine who is playing on which pairing at evens. Soucy was mostly paired with Oleksiak and the next closest was Giordano. He was undeniably in Seattle's top 4 playing against the tough matchups.

After the trade deadline. When gio left he slotted to 4. He was 5. Hence why I said he’s more of a 4-5 guy right now. You said past two seasons he’s been 4 when he was definitely 5-6 on Minnesota 20-21 season. Anyways, this is dumb. It doesn’t matter how much he plays. He’s be my like 6th choice to fix our problem. He’s like your 2nd. To each their own.

No, he was almost entirely top 4 last season. And the large majority of that time he was on their top pairing with Oleksiak. And he played a significant portion of the second half of the prior season in the MINN top 4 when they had an injury crisis in the D.

I'd propose not overpaying for a guy who has never played a full season, and idk maybe find someone like Soucy or sign someone who can play as a stop gap.
