Thats going to be a no from CHI. We are open to moving Stromes rights but we don't want all that cap in return on a rebuilding team blocking young players chances to play and develop.

Mrazek has a far more proven track record than Blackwood. And it's been reported your GM wants to move on from him, so a guy who's been bad for over half his games played, doesn't have much value. Whether you want it to be different.

Where does it say he wants to trade Blackwood? Can’t be making stuff up now. And Blackwood has more value than Mrazek easily

    1. chicago needs someone to play goal and they will need someone to play for Strome. Mrazek is able to play half the games on a bad team and isn’t good enough to steal games Chicago wants to lose during the “effort to rebuild” “dumping” that will be happening to gain higher placing in the draft the next few years. Kerfoot fits into any hole needed to and can be moved for a draft choice at next years deadline.

    2. Strome is too old to fit the hawks stated plan for a total rebuild and Holl plus the two draft choices, plus the Mrazek/Kerfoot pieces are reasonable.

    3. Like it or not Blackwood has little value and getting anything back like the right to sign Campbell is something real. The dream that sandin will be thrown in to make deal for him isnt real and the point was that devils need a starter to take the next step in becoming a winning franchise. Reports are that they will be active on Campbell.

    4. See above…. I think that the cap room isn’t the issue that makes Chicago do this. Strome is going to get 3+ in arbitration so it’s similar to kerfoot. The goal would be to trade kerfoot, holl for draft choices to add to the other two. From my read that’s how you start a total rebuild, by getting multiple draft choices in multiple years. In this case it’s 4 choices for Strome + a proven sieve in net to assure games are lost as needed.

    5. As stated, Blackwood hasn’t worked out and really has only had one good season. That’s now 3 seasons ago. Devils want guy who can win now and Campbell proved in Toronto he can be that guy. The right to negotiate prior to free agency has proven worthwhile and might be difference between signing him or not. You want more, sure let’s add a player/ prospect on wing.

    6. See above, Blackwood isn’t being traded for Mrazek. In my evaluation Blackwood has little value as anything more then a backup.

That has not been reported. That has been speculated by beat reporters covering teams that have a goalie to sell or want Blackwood.

If anything, what has actually been reported suggests that will add a goalie to compete with Blackwood, not to replace him.

It's pretty vague both ways. A GM saying he wants a player to be healthy could just be buttering him up, hoping for a minor asset for him.

Not sure what differentiates speculation from reporters and my comment that it has been reported.

Campbell if he went to devils would be 4 or more years at 5 or more million so likely wouldn’t be paying that so he could “compete” for the job. I believe devils are moving to win now mode and will want an upgrade on Blackwood. Campbell is that player in my opinion.

I added a player and a replacement backup goalie to appease. Want to argue now over value of those guys?

Point is supposed to be Campbell fits long term plan for devils and that they may wan5 to move on from Blackwood who frankly hasn’t worked out for them as hoped. His inclusion isn’t of much value to leafs as he is going to be overpaid at 2.8 million for what he will be.

So you would rather keep Blackwood and sign Campbell and pay us a draft pick…….sure, what about a 3rd or 4th round pick in 2023

Ok so all you devil fans I changed and you can keep Blackwood. I would rather pay Desmith 3x 2 to be backup then ruffle your feathers on Blackwood. How about a 4th rd pick fir rights to sign Campbell as an upgrade to your goal.

Reporting - “Sources indicate Toronto are in discussion with New Jersey around a trade for MacKenzie Blackwood”

Speculation - “The leafs may want to add a goalie and the Devils could look to make a change. Maybe these two teams could match-up on a Blackwood trade”

    Big difference

The Devils have always been very tight-lipped (and have fewer beat reporters) so information does not come out often. Which is why we get these speculations that turn into rumors when there is no evidence.

“The Devils are shopping Blackwood”. No evidence of that. If anything, the GM and MackBlack has patched things up and team has recommitted to him for year.

“The Devils are shopping 2nd overall pick”. Again, no evidence at all. Our GM answered one question about moving his 1st round pick with a “would consider anything that helps team” type of response. That was before the lottery and it has snowballed since.

The Devils are not going to qualify Miles Wood” there has been nothing about this from team. Fitzgerald has said he wants him back, considers him a big part of team, and Miles Wood has said he wants to come back.

All fair comment but I think you would agree that devils need an upgrade in goal and there is no doubt that Campbell would be an option that would give them that.

I choose devils but could just as easily suggested it be Edmonton who also need a goalie and might pay a draft choice to secure rights to Campbell before he goes to market.

The value comes from gaining futures with cap you don't want not paying to take the cap. Kerfoot sure could fetch a 2nd/3rd at the TDL and Holl may fetch a late round pick but CHI don't need the issue of them blocking a pathway for the players we will keep long term. Our message would be simple, pay the futures for the rights or not at all IMO. There is a workload that comes with trying to move a player and when its publicly known that the players won't be staying, it can have an effect on the leverage and price you can get for said asset. Overall this would be a poor move from CHI management and with reported interest from multiple parties for his rights, no point doing something like this.
