The Leafs have 3 picks in this years draft. That's pretty slim. They look to acquire more. Detroit has had too many picks in the past 4 years and trades quantity away for a better chance at quality

According to the draft value chart of 2022, you would need to add the kings 7th round pick to make the trade even but you did pretty good here is very even

Your chart is off. It will cost a mid 2nd to move up 10 spots or less, this is 15 spots.

Absolutely. Based on last years draft, Yzerman was super aggressive to after players he wanted vs sitting on loads of picks and waiting to see who'd be there with what the spots he had. Detroit has another 10 picks this year again. They don't need 10 picks every single year. My gut feeling is Yzerman will be aggressive again this draft and we'll see more moves like this one. Targeting teams that have very little draft picks in the first 4 rounds like Toronto (2), Tampa (2), Vegas (2), Pittsburgh (2), Colorado (1), Edmonton (1).

You're the one quoting it, you own it now. Nashville carlolina did a similar trade just last year. Dubas moved down 3 spots in 2018 and received the 73rd pick.

If leafs trade it will be with Seattle or Arizona. Either that or Detroit makes up the value some other way.

Proper value for miving down 15 spots would be the 41st pick at minimum. You don't own it.

If I were Dubas I would only do this if Lian Bichsel was off the board by the time their pick rolls around

Sure. Done. That would still leave Detroit with 7 picks in the draft. 2 of them in the first round. That's a good thing.

Yes when they should be getting 40 and 41 at worst.

That's not equal value. At worst I'd be willing to swap the 73rd for the 52nd in the deal.

Detroit traded 23rd Overall, 48th Overall and 138th Overall for the 15th Overall in last years draft. Moving up 8 spots. The cost to move 8 spots from 23 to 15 is higher than the cost to move 15 spots to 25th. You can't compare apples to apples in terms of spots moved up as the value of the pick goes down the higher it is.

That is closer. Unfortunately people here are lost on what value moving up has.

Last season canes traded pick 26 for pick 39 and 50. Leafs have traded down 3 spots in first round and got pick 73. Asking a team to move down 15 spots will cost.

Yup, and that was actually a very good deal. But it was 8 spots not 15.

I gave you an almost perfect comparison. Carolina and Nashville.

Leafs will just trade with Arizona. Who has a horrendous draft record in the 2nd round.

Pick 25 for pick 34 and 45. Much better for the keafs.

The 8 spots to 15 cost more than 15 spots to 25.

Also it was pick 22. So 7 spots csts pick 47 and 137. You are trying to move up 15 spots for pick 73 and 113. All be it a bit later in the first.

Like I have said multiple times. The canes Nashville trade will be close to the value. Dubas isn't making these trades. He will just trade with someone else or keep pick 25.
