Feels like the bare minimum that should happen

Description
If Varlamov gets traded than you could chase a much bigger fish, but I'm still not sure Lou will do it. This is still an improved team from last year and anything less than something like this should be considered a failure

You think the Islanders trade Mayfield? Tough to see a spot for him in the top4, and I imagine he could get paid like one. They must be trading Varlamov no? They don't need the cap this year exactly, but $5mil is a ton to get better, either in the offseason or build it up for TDL.

The 2nd and 3rd are the price to just dump Panik in isolation. Given the season he just had Ghost could fetch a larger return than that on his own, especially with retention. Yotes HARD pass on that

It costs nothing to dump Panik, when buried in the AHL his cap hit is only $250K. Isles have options at 3 LD and do not need Gostisbehere, Isles would not do this trade.

If the Isles have legit aspirations to push for a Cup, which I believe that they do, they'll keep Mayfield. Could they move him this summer? Possibly I guess, but it would be in a package for a legit top-6F IMO. He doesn't need to play top-4 minutes with the Isles because they roll their pairs pretty evenly. Scotty definitely isn't more talented than Pulock or Dobson, but that's not a bad thing. He gets plenty of PK minutes and is on a dirt cheap contract. If all went to hell I could see them trading Mayfield at the deadline for a 1st (similar to Savard/Chiarot) but if they're in contention, Mayfield will be our own rental. I'm, not sure what his next deal looks like, but $3m ish per year is probably the floor.

I think I would trade Varly for that exact reason. But Lamoriello basically said after the deadline that goalie is an area he feels like he can't improve over what he has and it doesn't make sense to create a hole just to try and fill another. Varly is best friends with Sorokin and the Isles currently don't have any other Russian speaking players on the roster. And of course if Sorokin got hurt you would be very thankful to have Varly in 1B position. If the Isles think they have a shot at a Forsberg or Gaudreau in UFA, everything I just said about Varly should go out the window.

Lou has said he wants to keep Varly since he is close to Sorokin, and I would imagine Lou offers Mayfield a extension this offseason in the $2.5-$2.8 range for 5 or 6 years (similar to the Czizkas deal) where the cap hit is lower but Mayfield gets extra years.

If neither player is extended and Isles are out of the playoffs Lou probably sells Mayfield, but if the Isles are in playoffs at the deadline he would keep both players and let them walk in free agency.

I didn't make this team pal. If it costs nothing to keep Panik then great just keep him buried in the AHL. I'm just telling you for 50% retained the Coyotes could get way more than a 2nd and a 3rd for Ghost

Richard Panik's buried cap his is only $250k and he is on an expiring contract. You could not be any more wrong in that valuation of him. I have enough cap space left in this ACGM just to keep him if I wanted to, so it's really a moot point.

The Yotes already got a 2nd when Philly first dumped him there. The additional picks would be a cherry on top. He is clearly not part of their long term plans. I think they would do this, especially if they like a player still on the board at this year's draft when that pick is on the clock

Yeah this is pretty much where I stand too. I'm not totally ruling out Varly getting traded, but I would only put the odds at like 25%. I think there is a very reasonable chance that Bailey and Beauvillier have played their last games here though. I also don't think we make the 13th pick in two weeks. Something has to give. And soon.
