Lol get your panties in a knot man, because I recognize a terrible contract doesn't make me a hater. If you can please point out where I made him out to be a scrub that would be cool because well...you know I never did. The bigger problem is his contract.
-He signed for another 5 years.
-His reckless style of play is what makes him effective but it is catching up with him and he is getting injured. So does he change his style of play and become less effective or continue to get injured? Dunno, but I am sure you do.
-His career high in points is 47 and he got 32 last year.
But by all means, go on expecting that terrible contract to get a first.
While I normally agree with what you say, in this one I totally do not. While is contract could seen long and big and could be restrictive on later year right now he's not. He still have 3 or 4 more good year to give which would leave around 1 or 2 year at 5.5m which is not that bad if you take into consideration that in 3 year the league will allow the maximum cap salary to grow again.
Anderson playstyle is not a common thing in the league there maybe 5 to 10 % of player base who does that. Which bring value in the rarity of the product. I'm not saying he's automatically granted as a good first round value but there a system of Offer and demand in play. The more number of gm who want him would result in higher price. Also Hughes don't dislike the player neither is contract right now which mean if any team want to get him out they will need to make it worth it.
From what I have understood is that the plan for the draft will be this:
Plan A: If we're able to do a trade for pick between #6 to 15 to get a good Center prospect like Conor Geekie / Jonathan Lekkerimaki / Cutter Gauthier / Frank Nazar III
And select Slafkovsky as the #1 and to acquire the pick Anderson could be the target.
Plan B select Wright cause he's the best center of the draft. And forgot Slafkovsky cause they won't be able to select both.
