Isles couldn’t even afford Pasta long term. Also moving Raty is a deal breaker for me. I’m not saying pasta isn’t worth it, but isles can’t keep shooting their farm system in the foot. It’s not sustainable.

I am perplexed by the idea that Raty is a dealbreaker in a trade for Pasta. If raty becomes half the player Pasta is we’d probably be pleased with that. Also only 26

I thought he was older than 26 tbh. Raty’s production in Ligga has been phenomenal tho and I would have less than 0 interest in moving him

-I think Toronto passes on this deal - they'd have interest in Varlamov if he waived his NTC but I think you're getting a pick and a b-tier prospect. The only way (and I don't even know if it's enough) I see Sandin coming back is if you take full freight on Mrazek coming back, too.

-It's a big package but I honestly don't know if it's enough for Pasta. Wahlstrom has potential but hasn't shown it; Raty is the same boat. Another team can offer a similar batch of picks and a better pair of prospects if Pasta really became available.

-No idea why this trade is happening. Anders Lee is the captain of the team, he's pretty much good for 25-30 goals per year, and he's got an NTC. You're retaining $2.5M for 4 years, swapping a 3rd from this year to next year, and adding a couple late round picks all for...Denis Gurianov? He's 25 now so not a ton of room to grow and he's settled in as a 35ish point guy for Dallas. Why would this be the guy you give up this many assets for?

I'm not fully into the isles, but am I right to say that lee contract will look bad in a couple of years?

It probably will be rough in the last 2 years, the way almost all 7/8 year deals wind up. He goes from full NTC to half-NTC in those years, though, so there's an escape hatch if necessary. He's right in line with most of the non-Barzal core forwards, age-wise - a lot of those big contracts are all guys in the 29-33 age range. I think that with all of those deals expiring within the next 2-4 years, it makes it more likely that a)they keep the boys together for a last couple runs and b)they start treating draft picks a little more carefully knowing that they'll have a chunk of top 9 spots to fill in the next few seasons.
