And I think you have the picks all mixed up.

Tavares is still a very good player, but not elite. But in this case he's more of a cap dump for TOR to be able to afford Gibson. He just doesn't fit ANA's timelines. ANA will be looking for young players / prospects / picks when moving Gibson. SEA might be willing to cover 25%, but the Leafs would have to pay the picks, not ANA. And the Leafs would definitely have to add (provided Tavares is even willing to waive for ANA)

John Tavares wouldn't wave for a rebuilding team not that he even fit with a rebuilding team idea of asset. He's fit more with competitive team who want to go into playoffs. But doing that your restricted your trade partners potential and you need to think about the salary cap that JT taking which reduces again the potential trade partners pool. I think Nylander would be more easier to move then John Tavares even if I think JT is more the veterans you like to have in playoffs.
