The issue with taking Miller is going to be his contract demands - he'll be asking for what Kadri is likely to get which means he'll be priced out of Colorado. Can't see the Avs making a deal like this.

I don't think this is an overpay by COL at all, this is more than a fair offer for one year of JT. Girard is a just turned 24 year old 2-3 Dman who has a great cap hit for the next 5 years. Add the picks and meh prospect, Vancouver definitely accepts.

This is the most sensible J.T. Miller to COL trade I've seen. Sakic has been adament that he's not giving up Newhook and Byram for rentals, which is likely what Miller would be in COL, and I've seen Canucks fans going as far as implying that both of the kids AND Lehkonen is a fair asking price. I still don't think the Avs plan on trading Girard this summer. While I do think he's the likely trade piece when the Avs do need to clear up some cap space, I don't think that's going to be the case until next summer at least. If you have the cap space to keep a guy like Girard around, you keep him.

As for the 2C hole, there are going to be plenty of options on the open market (Giroux, Copp, Trocheck, etc.). If the Avs can't land one of those guys, Sakic can go for a middle-6 forward (Stastny, Namestnikov, Vatrano, etc.), and open up the door for Newhook to take on a larger role, but still have another player who can jump into the top 6 whenever need be.
