NSH
  1. van Riemsdyk, James (3 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Any semi Contending team, not sure what the return would be. But 3.5 mil for a 25 goal scorer, 3rd line PP specialist would be good for them
2.
PHI
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. Nylander, William
Détails additionnels:
They drop in quality in Nylander, but gain ~4 mil cap space to make additional moves to bolster the depth. TK is a true quality 2nd line winger that adds more of an edge to play against. They also get a B+/B prospect that will take a year in the AHL to develop, and can turn into a middle 6 player
TOR
  1. Brink, Bobby
  2. Konecny, Travis
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (FLA)
Détails additionnels:
Flyers get a clear upgrade to get a legit 1st line winger to pair with Couturier. Brink could be Zamula as well if they want defensive prospect more.

If the Leafs traded Nylander (which IMO Is a mistake) they would want to improve the quality of their team for the upcoming season. They definitely don't do that here. I'm not certain they're looking for prospects or draft picks (especially draft picks two years away, where a player may not be ready for the NHL until 2027ish). I am not going to say the value is horrible, I just don't think that deal works from the Leafs perspective.

The Flyers are giving up too much for a RW that doesn't really make them much more competitive. If the Flyers are going to trade these kinds of assets it better be for Defense or Center help not another winger.

Trading for Nylander 100% makes them more competitive. They get a dynamic winger that pair with a Selke Center. As well as a better threat on the PP that desperately needs more creativity on it. A better 2C than Hayes would be great, but I dont see any center out there that would be a good fit other than Kadri, who would cost too much

yeah thats fair, The thinking is that with more cap flexibility, and more trade capital allows them to go out and get lets say a #1 goalie, while also not downgrading a ton at the winger position.

It's not terrible value-- IF the 1st, prospect are flipped for something that makes TOR better for the next 1-2 seasons, and utilizes cap space. Both moves would have to be in place for either to work.

I actually really like this trade. The flyers get more a dynamic offensive weapon and somebody to replace Braun and play with York on the third pairing. They also move on from Konencny who has been rumoured to want a change of scenary before anyways.

The leafs get a physical skating winger and a prospect with a lot of potential. The biggest thing from Toronto IMO would be the cap space. A trade like this could be the difference between a second line of Robertson - Tavares - Nylander and Nick Paul (4 mill) - Tavares - Konecny. Plus Brink would be very cheap and has potential to contribute in the bottom six

My concern with Nylander is that he's been a productive 4th option on a great offensive team. If he comes to the Flyers he's the #1 offensive option. How does he handle that? I'm not convinced he's a stand alone star and I would not give up the amount of assets suggested in this deal to get him. I'm sure he'll still be productive but the Flyers do not need to rush back to mediocrity while giving up a lot of assets. They can do nothing but just get healthy and obtain mediocrity, maybe even get a playoff spot with just that. In my opinion, the goal is to win the cup not just make the playoffs. Trading assets for Nylander is a move that would aid in getting a playoff spot but makes little difference in winning come playoff time. Konecny would be a player I would prefer having over Nylander in the playoffs. In time Brink and that first round pick will be contributing too.

Also in 2 short seasons and Nylander keeps producing 80 points a year he'll become a $9 or $10 million player at current UFA rates for that production. Again, he's a good player but as a stand alone player can he produce 80 points and more so does he do enough with his 80 points to be paid like he's among the super star class of players? The Flyers have had lower level star players like Voracek and Giroux on their team. Fine players to have but they're not the pieces a team should be chasing after. They should develop that tier of player.

To be fair, Nylander and Holl improve the Flyers. But that is one of the best offers I think the Leafs get.

Any Leaf fan that just looks at this trade as Nylander Versus Koneckny and futures as a team downgrade, does not have a grasp that they need to move some salary to get a goaltender, and that this gives them futures which they lack and the downgrade of passive nylander to a more fiery koneckny is worth it, so that they can improve the team. Too many Leaf fans cant look at the rather meh pile of forward mess beyond the top 4.

A prospective Bunting-Matthews-Marner, Nick Paul/Marchment-Tavares-Koneckny is a better top 6 than what they have currently, without moving Kerfoot or any other contracts.

The Leafs are in tough to resign their young RFA defensemen in Sandin and Liljegren and the arbitration eligible Engvall AND then get a goalie under the cap, that is a fact.

A team that had 115 pts in the regular season and has really just 1 nhl ready forward ELC (Robertson) and no cap space cant afford to go bargain shopping at the most important position on the ice: goaltender. They need the cap space and quite frankly this trade is probably the best return they'll get. Holl might get a 3rd on the open market, so how can a leaf fan not like difference between Nylander and TK/Brink/1st/1.5mil in cap space? (And who's to say the Leafs cant turn around and offer the 1st and Brink for JT Miller half retained? Or offer CGY TK, 1st and Brink for Tkachuk?)

For those that think that they can only get "direct" upgrades, what do you think Nylander gets in trade thats a direct upgrade AND where do you think they find the money to sign a goaltender? What teams will trade you a nylander for a nylander?
