Habs need Wright as the floor is higher than Slaf even if we all agree Slaf has a higher ceiling. They cant screw this pick up!

Girard isnt worth all that. The left side simply isnt a need rn. The time to target Girard would line up with the MacKinnon signing in 2023-24 when the Avs need to shed salary

avs decline.

the 2023 1st is a good start but harris is a pretty weak prospect.

dvorak and hoffman are both one dimensional players that when they aren't scoring are completely useless to their teams.

instead make it florida 2023 1st, guhle, and habs 2022 3rd or florida 2023 1st, barron, evans.

Guhle will be as good or better than Girard. No ways Habs add a lot more than a 3rd on Guhle

guhle certainly isn't a lock to be as good as girard although it is possible. habs are getting a proven 24 year old dman with a steal of a contract while the avs are assuming all the risk that guhle pans out. habs add a late 1st at the very minimum.

I am not the GM, but it would take a lot for me to trade Guhle: he really looks like he is going to be a stud. While I like Girard, I feel like some of this is sacrificing the future just to be competitive for a bottom playoff spot. I'd rather trade a few assets (i.e. cap hits) and gain futures. If the Canadiens can do that, they will really set themselves up to be a top-of-the-league team in 4-5 years. They just have to be smart about it. That's just my opinion though, so please don't hate. smile

BERGERON Will not leave BOS he already said its there or retirement.
AVS won't move Girard he's a 24yr old stud on a hell of a contract.

Yeah that’s an easy no for COL. Hoffman has negative value, they have a cheaper Dvorak in Compher, Harris doesn’t really move the needle because I don’t think he makes the Avs roster even with Girard traded, so ultimately what you have is COL taking on cap for a late 1st rd pick and making the team worse. That’s an easy no.

Nothing is a guarantee but this is sport, you take risks on high ceiling players, same reason Slafkovsky is being talked about as number 1OA even though Shane Wright has been tabbed as the number 1 for years.

Guhle upside is undeniable, to say that isnt a factor in the trade is simply homer bias

They need to bet on high upside players. Girard isnt a number 1 D. Guhle has every tool, if he doesnt make the show as a number 1, it's still a shot they took instead of just trying to compete for a playoff spot which would be the message in any trade involving Girard and a high upside player

Completely agree on betting on high-upside players. I want to preface this next statement by saying that I love Girard's game and any team would want him. We do disagree on where he's at: I see him as a really good second pair, puck moving powerplay quarterback. But I concede that it's easy to see him as a number 1, too. The Avalanche are so loaded on the back end that Girard may be their fourth best defenceman by the start of the season (Byram has really turned it on). The Canadiens may be able to get him for a song (and not have to give away a player like Guhle). But, it's a fun debate! smile

not sure you understood my post. not saying he doesn't have upside. saying that it's a risk for colorado to trade a young proven player for a prospect. which is why colorado needs to be compensated for that risk.

Its not a good bet for the Habs to make or the Avs unless they are trying to move salary as the Avs are in their window though 2023 will bring some cap challenges
