It doesn't make sense on the Islanders end - I'm not going to argue whether Mayfield or Barrie is the better player, but Mayfield plays RD3 for the Isles and is paid $1.45M - more or less what you want to pay your bottom pair guys. Barrie would be replacing Mayfield (I don't think he knocks Pulock or Dobson out of RD1/2) but makes $4.5M. Doing that kind of trade without addressing the hole on the left side of the D depth chart is just not smart asset management.

I also can't see Arizona trading one of their best assets for an LTIR contract and a couple of late 1sts, nor can I see Buffalo taking Zack Kassian back after all these years if you're only including a 5th (they don't need retention if you're dumping him, they have plenty of cap space.)

Sabres can also just bring back Hayden who generally fills the same role/purpose as Kassian and has been a good locker room/team guy.

Islanders won’t take on salary for a solid albeit mediocre defenseman. Especially with a solid albeit mediocre dman on the way out

Point taken on Barrie and Kassian trades. I think it's reasonable to think Barrie can be moved for a D man like Mayfield, even if it's not Mayfield specifically. I probably should have increased the compensation for the Kassian cap dump - Buffalo also may not be the right destination.

On the Chychrun trade, I gotta disagree. I think two 1sts and a 2nd is very fair for a guy who requested a trade. Maybe they'll do better than that, but I don't think that's out of line at all.
