Trades: As good as a depth piece as Donskoi is, he's a similar style player in a lesser role. Really trading him is just clearing cap space to bring different style guys in that can mesh with the room. The Driedger for Kassian swap may seem out of place at first, but Grubauer is clearly the starter in Seattle for the foreseeable future, Edmonton needs a Goalie, and Kassian is a gritty power forward that can play up and down the line up, and has a deep playoff run under his belt now to bring some experience in.
RFA's: Hayden and Cale Fleury are both solid young d-men who can make up a versatile bottom pair, as long as the price tags don't get out of hand, I don't see Seattle moving on from them. Kind, True, and Geekie are all valuable young forwards that may just need some more time to develop, but are good depth for now. Donato is a solid middle six forward with upside that can also centre if someone goes down. Cholowski, Sprong, Kuhlman and Twarynski didn't have a strong enough showing to warrant keeping them around.
UFA's : Martin Jones may want to be back on the west coast where he's enjoyed most of his success, cheaper back up option that has had playoff pedigree, slight reclaimation project though. Smith has top six skill and high compete factor, perfect linemate for Beniers moving forward. Bjugstad and Gaunce add some responsible two way play to the bottom six, should fit well in Hakstol's system. Klingberg gets to be a true number one d man again, takes over as the powerplay QB, helps a defensive core sorely lacking true offensive upside.
