Quoting: CEO
The ELC and depth scoring is too valuable, at least until Samaskovich is here. We are retaining 10% and taking back Murray's contract. Forsling is a top 4 offensive defenseman who could return a 1st at a deadline
I get the Panthers not wanting to use Lundell as a piece to incentivize teams to take on Bob, but Florida only has 4 options for dealing with Bob.
1) Keep Bob, but in turn they lose Huberdeau and other pieces.
2) Buyout Bob, but that hurts their cap situation quite substantially, and the Cats will have to cut other vital members of their rosters, potentially including Huberdeau.
3) Dump Bob, and pay the price that the acquiring team asks, and keep Huberdeau.
4) Dump Bob, but retain close to half of his salary, reduce the amount of pieces needed to dump and maybe get something in return, but sacrifice roster capabilities for the next 4 years.
Because Florida lacks quality draft picks for the next 3 years, they would more than likely have to pay the compensation in prospects and roster players. Not to mention, there are very few teams that can even take Bob’s contract regardless of retention status. Of those teams, do you really think Bob waives his NMC? None of the options I listed are ideal for Florida, but they made the mistake of signing Bob to that massive contract, now they have to deal with the consequences. I wonder which of these paths Florida will take.
